Bitumen bleed season again

Dunno about the rest of the country but after a couple of week's worth of warm temperatures, all my favourite roads are developing the dreaded "bitumen bleed" (aka "tar snakes"). Usually in the corners of course where you want good grip. Very slippery when wet (which could explain the myriads of "Slippery When Wet" signs that abound in these parts).

Watch the buggers eh. But then we all know that don't we.

Temps in the mid 20's around the hole today?

some of the bends on the mighty Akaroa hills had it last weekend and some around Gebbies pass, not good at all when ya see it to late.. but lucky for me it was a nana ride so wasnt to bad..

There's one corner in particular over the way to Akaroa that's really nasty, it's caught me out a few times going in fairly hard then suddenly its rougher than a $50 Manchester St hooker.

I concur. Already had quite a few days oop here hot enough to melt the tar, slippery when wet, either way. Barstard to get off the wheels & plastics too, when you go plodging through it.

I've had two days over 30C in the last couple of weeks. But then my place is in the lee of a hill so gets stinkin' hot.

The road out to Raglan is crapping out fast though...pretty soon I'm gunna hafta be sensible...

Well it was about 28 deg and 45 in my gear. I thought the road was great to Akaroa that weekend. Sunday about 9am. Maybe it was just my tyres and the heat but it stuck like shit to a blanket. Sometimes we get a bit carried away with the thrill but as always, some fuckwit ruins it for the rest of us trying to get his knee down all the way. Smooth is better than hard and fast and a lot safer too.

I really enjoy that ride but I am about to ditch it due to some tossers passing blind corners, wrong side of road etc etc. The fuzz are getting a bit sick of it too and did a huge bike check in Tai Tap. Just brings unwanted heat on the rest of us who enjoy the Akaroa ride.

Anyone knows if there are any major road works in Coromandel?

My last coro loop must have been about two years ago and tomorrow looks like a nice day for it :-)

the coromandel/whangapoua/matarangi part of the coro loop has large areas of freshly laid course chip seal so please take care.
