Sick of people telling you what death traps motor bikes are?

Simple solution - go for a ride... as long and as often and as safely as you can.

This will do two things, it will make you a better rider as you practise your skills and improve your abilities, and shut the doom sayers up as you demonstrate yourself not falling off and embedding yourself into an early grave.

Plus, when you ride you can't hear them waffling on anyway.

Oh, and don't blame car drivers, 99% of accidents aren't caused by them. Getting ya leg over two wheels of insta-fun is the choice of the rider, nobody ever rode as a result of a gun to their head. What you get up to on the road is your business alone.

Donor: So ya glad you're a Biker?

    Minnie: F**k yeah!

They are trying to be helpful
Remember when the Mrs first got pregas all the other woman gather around and start the horror stories of what goes wrong instead of encouraging stories. Every one knows someone where it went wrong, sometime I reckon the worst thing that can happen is the kid survives . I think its part of human nature to enjoy others cock-ups and others pain. It is why some seem to think people only got to motor racing to see the crashes.
Funny how horse riding is meant to be one of the most high risk activities but when someone says they ride horses it all a case of 'how nice', where are the horror stories? is this because it is an animal? or because it is now largely a chick thing? Horses bet Hippos in NZ for accidents.

so many people dont. Im lucky enough that the missus doesnt bat an eyelid at all, she loves bikes herself, and would never ask me to get rid of them. We had a discussion the other day about when the kids can get their first bike, I suggested it should be a gift for getting out of diapers . . .

    My philosphy to a 'T'

I've seen enough dead dudes lying on the road/in a paddock/on the floor that probably had all manner of plans for stuff they planned to do 'later on' or had grandios retirement plans etc

And I bet bugger all of them woke up that morning and realised their time would run out that day...

OK, who gave the 'demotivators club' my Mrs' phone number?

Now she says she's worried about me, just because of that little skid on some leaves two Saturdays ago... *sigh*

Since I have bought my bike, or even before that, every second person i meet who knows I am into motorcycles talks about accidents. It is always some other person they know of who had been in an accident. They often show interest in biking and most say they want to buy a m'cycle for themselves, but then inadvertently shift the topic to accidents. I hate such clairvoyants who claim to predict my destiny indirectly. And I am not talking about family and friends whose genuine concerns you can see. I say if you don't have anything nice to say then just shut your mouth. A simple `Be Safe' would suffice. I don't wanna talk about accidents and how people die. I have been driving cars for 15 years and I understand the risks. I have made an informed decision.

Sorry if I wasted anyone's time, but I need to get this out of my mind.

    Cheers

You made the right decision for you, "they" were not part of the equation, neither was having an accident ... wouldn't be called an accident if it was planned!

Enjoy your bike, I think they are actually safer than a car but if you don't respect it, it might not show any respect to you!

People always need to have their say on the matter, usually the fact that these accidents occur result in the individual not wanting to ride which is a little sad. You have to love getting out there and enjoy riding! Their loss, our gain. Be heard before you are seen on the road get some louder pipes to make your presence on the road known
