What an experience!

Well, I am currently looking for a new steed. I don't have an automobile and no longer have a work vehicle so it is back to using my motorcycle for everything, I had the requirement that it needed a lot of luggage capacity, comfort is the number 1 factor as well as the ability to cover miles easily. Had a think and went, hmmm I've never ridden an ultra classic, and they tick all the boxes.

Popped into AMPS and had a good look at the bike. Explained what I was looking for and agreed to come back this morning for a test ride. Suffice to say, I think I dun gone fallen in love.

The bike looks absolutely gorgeous. Not too heavy once you get it upright from the stand but you know that there is a bit of weight behind it. I was given the key and cautiously took off, never having ridden anything of this size before and I was immediately suprised by the lack of vibration and of how smooth it was. Headed through newmarket towards the motorway, getting used to the seating position and control which I must say are top notch. Bloody hell that riding position is good, great seat, hands in a relaxed position. You wouldn't think you are on a 400+ kilo bike with the sort of nimble steering that the ultra has. I zipped through new market without any hassle, remembering to put both feet down when stopped.

The bike has excellent ground feel and you always know what the front tire is doing. Hit the offramp and gave it a squirt, shit she pulls harder than a schoolboy. Out on the high speed roads, she was in her element. Minimal wind, smooth ride, I figured out how to use the radio which was awesome and worked a treat. Played with the cruise control and other gadget. Suffice to say I spent an enjoyable 45min cruising around in absolute comfort.

The bike was fantastic around town, brilliant on the open road and as long as you remember she is a biggie, slow speed maneuvering is not difficult.

I hope someone buys my GS soon because I know what my next bike will be

What a brilliant bike. It just makes you want to cruise and enjoy the scenery.

The only thing I am nervous about is the gravel roads that I have to ride on to get to my workplace, not long but still make me a little twichy. Anybody with experience know how they handle the looser stuff?

before i remembered i had a belt drive

They are a nice bike for sure. Go for it, but this thread is now a month old, you may have already got it by now?

I have a feeling I know what the answer is. It's a bit like feeling ones way along the venereal warts of a 19th Century Parisian tart in the dark though. You can't be sure in which direction one is heading, or if things should be quite that sticky.

Nice bikes the Ultra, well apart from the batwing front in my opinion.
Have you also considered a Heritage softail or Road king??
Both have factory detachable windshields and pannier bags standard, plus the roadking has cruise control too.

I rode one quite a bit in the USA- great for two-up long distance trip, superb comfort and so much luggage space.

A tad bulky for a quick trip to the corner shop maybe...

This ticks all the boxes!!!, ultra glides are a good bike but too bulky for most people.
