The heat shouldn't be too much of an issue for the bike. Maybe your legs. I rode a Buell XB12SS through the Nevada Desert in 48 deg heat no issue. With the bike anyway!
I probably wont ever attend another charity ride and the reason for that is, they can become a dangerous environment in which to ride.
Speed is not controlled, its everyone for themselves mostly.
At times you are riding at 120-130 khp and then hard on the brakes down to 50-60kph.
There is no enjoyment involved.
Not everyone can hear the ride brief (if there is one given) and even when they can hear, it counts for nothing.
5-6 bikes is good group size.
The othing I had a problem with was on yesterday's Toy Run. I had about 6 Harleys around me all with fairly "open pipes". I had to look at the rev counter to see what gear I was in half the time![]()
.
"So Hunny, how was your ride today" ?
"Was great, but for safety purposes, the Guzzi really needs some loud pipes"
"Oh okay go on then...you're never gonna give up are you...."
heh heh heh....
"...you meet the weirdest people riding a Guzzi !!..."
Should change the name of this forum to where's-my-petticoat-dot-com.
I've done my fair share of large group rides over the years, and quite frankly, i'm over them.
Seems all the prima donas get out there and race to the finish while the rest just cruise and bake.
Would rather chuck the money in a jar and mail it to the charity (and i do by the way) than choke myself on a ride so slow and boring.
I like to ride with a few mates and actually do some miles then have a long winded slog along a motorway to get to no where.![]()
Trumpydom!
Numbers have dwindled on the Auckland Westpac Helicopter ride over the years..
Still gets a reasonable turnout but nothing like it did 6-7 years ago when I first went.
This little Fella Hes been round the South Island and been on the bike for some three years now.
