    Tyres (beginner question)

So i am going to be racing my rg 150 in 2012, and am wondering how much of an advantage better quality tyres will give me?

currently using the irc 90/90 17 front and 110/80 vee rubber rear. (cheap tyres)

At the moment (3rd trackday) i am doing a 1:37 around manfeild
    Thanks in advance

The fastest guy at the winter series was on Heidenaus. Have a chat to alexhockly@gmail.com. Ridelife or raceyrider on here. Decent tyres will make a difference as you get closer to the ragged edge, but especially when the track is wet. A lot of guys run bridgestone bt39s and they are a good tyre. The Heidenaus are a sportier compound, work at least as well in the dry and work heaps better in the wet. IMHO.

Sorry Clive,I was the fastest at Manfeild,On Bridgestones and at round 1,Nothing wrong with the Heidenaus either though and are probably the pick of the bunch in the wet and Alex is a top bloke who will look after whoever he sells his product to,Not sure that you'd get near the lap record on them though.

My bad Billy. What I should have said was that the 2011 Actrix winter Series Streetstock winner did his best laptimes at Manfeild on Heidenaus. I didn't realise that you had lapped quicker than Tyler. I'm thinking I will have a go at round 2 PMCC on streetstock. Trying to talk Jandle Wintle into taking our other KR out as well. Smelly old men behaving badly. Are you a starter?

That's a challenge for sure man, but it will take someone else to claim the cash. My record of taking money off you isn't the best. The OP and his mate on a KRR are getting around Manfeild pretty well and I'm keen to see how they go once they have a bit of experience.

After those three have finished their man-boy loving.....

On the KR's it seems that the Bridgestone works a bit better on the newer KRR with the wider alloy wheels and the Hidenaus work well on the KR with the narrower spoked wheels, at least according to one rider and his 'ahem' mechanic.

How that corresponds to the RG is beyond my knowledge.

It's fair to say our Heidenau range is a bit limited in the 17" range, with the factory mainly concentrating on the 'Classic Racer' 18" 19" rubber.
They do have a good selection in the 120/70-17 and 160/60-17 range though, (Slicks / Road-Sports / Intermediate / Wet's ), and a 2.75 (80/90-17") which works well on the smaller bikes.
I've seen guys using 120's on the rear of RG150's at races, so our 120 K80 may be suitable there. (need to do some testing)

The wide 18" rim KRR issue I haven't finished sorting out yet. Need to fit a tyre to one to test profile etc.

Manfeild is in the 1.25 sec bracket and I think Taupo track 1 is around 1.55
