Request for recommendations for camp sites and general invitation

    Morning all,

I'm doing the following ride to see the olds for Xmas and then get the hell out of there again:
    20th Auck - Taupo/Turangi
    21st Taupo/Turangi - Wellington
22nd early ferry followed by Picton to Chch

and then the reverse from 27th - 29th with the ferry VERY early on the 28th.

    1. Anyone got any recommendations for campgrounds in or near any of the above locations.
    2. Anyone pointing the same way would be welcome to join for a while; pass me; wave as I go past; grab a beer and talk bikes or whatever.

Cheers in advance for the flood of replies (to 1. anyway)

    You're doing SH1 ? How boring !!!!

    Here's a better idea,

Auk-Ngaruawahia-Te Kuiti- Right down H3- Left down H4- Right down H43 and stay at the whangamomona hotel for the night 3 or 4 hr ride ! Be as cheap as staying at a top 10 camp site i'd say, or take a tent and pitch it where ya want (bloody freedom campers, anyone would think that was what NZers were brought up doing).

Nek mornin follow H43 out to Stratford- Right up H3 into NPlym and around the mountain H45, (for the hell of it)- down H3 to wanganui-Bulls-Then H1 to Kapiti 4 to 5 hour (6 if ya go round the mount) or into wellington if you feel you want to be closer than an Hour to the ferry !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Whats that campground in or around Levin?
If you make that far at one hit, would be a nice place to saty for the night before the short no pressure ride into the ferry the next morning.

Any DOC campsite is usually a good spot.

Ahem... new plan. Please see above

Been a few years since I last did that ride + I can visit 1Tonne for a looky. It was 1am when I came up with my original idea so some latitude please....

And since every camp site I've contacted thus far says "just turn up and we'll have something" I'm gonna concentrate on the roads and stop when I get tired. Or pitch my tent next to a fucked bike and wait for roadside rescue, which ever comes first. DOC or grass verge will do me.

    Cheers all.
