Jenni has just arrived home after being at the emergency centre at the TDC and up at the dam last night...

The water here is higher than I've ever seen it but nothing compared to areas even just 100m away...

Nope. I'm staying inside. Dry. Warm.

Still got the constant rain. Water levels dropped 2cm out the back about 7am but are back up to the overnight high now.

Quite happy I've got no jobs booked today after riding around in it all yesterday.

I've just spent a couple of hours digging away a slip at the bottom of the driveway. All the traffic is diverted thru waimea Rd meaning it is gridlocked from town to Richmond. Not much point trying to get to any jobs today.
Coffee & internet day I think.

High tide in an hour or so. After that, the Maitai should start going down a bit.

Our driveway is all scoured out now. When the water stops we'll have some massive pot holes. The power of this little bit of water is actually quite suprising. We're very lucky tho. Sounds like Collingwood & takaka are cut off by slips. I'd say the whangamoas would be pretty dangerous.

Appleby Bridge was closed, Brightwater Bridge was one lane.

Would be quite cool to blat through the Maungatapu and have a look at the Heringa Stream though

According to my rain-gauge, we've had about 40cm over the last 48 hours.

Fook that is a LOT of rain, I am sure if we had that in Wanaka we would now have a waterfront property!

I remember the pics you took of the jetty that was a good flood

Here are some quick vids I took while driving to a job in Nelson today.
For all those that know Nelson all the central Nelson eastern streets under the ridgeline of the centre of NZ by Nordies place have been closed due to slips or danger of future slips.
This first vid is outside of Founders Park. You can see a digger clearing a big slip on Iwa rd.

On the way back thru this a car went past about 80km/h. The rain hasn't done a lot to slow the non gridlocked traffic down - some fricking ignorant drivers.

This next one is on Domett Rd next to the Maitai valley. Just below the road submerged is the cycleway track I take the kids riding on.

The job I was working on has access from the road via this lil walkbridge. This is 'The Brook'. If you imagine Thunder road on Grease shrunk quite a bit - that's what this is usually like.
I have paddled a bit of whitewater a few years ago & although this doesn't look particularly bad on the video it is real ugly in real life.

Prick of a nights sleep, bloody noisy creek thundering past the house kept me awake.
The new lake over the road has gone down significantly, there is just a hell of a lot of rubble all over the park now, but all good here, just realise that me gutters want cleaning out. Frikken silk trees
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
