Apparently ok there, the big falls were in fairly isolated areas, e.g. Nelson got heaps whereas Motueka area didn't and Golden Bay is just a friggen disaster, there is a lot more damage down there than folk realise. Rumours today that places like Totaranui won't be open for up to a year the road is that bad, and there are a number of campervans and other vehicles stuck their for the duration. Not much money left in the pot to fix a lot of the damage so its gonna be some lean times for a lot of Golden Bay businesses that rely on visitor numbers.

possibly some new options for adv riders though.

Apart from the parts mentioned above Nelson is still business as usual. The images you see are of the worse bits - kinda like the 1st quake in Chch. The slips are pretty cool to look at
To be fair the only thing different now for 99% of the Nelson population is that traffic is a bit slower through the main thoroughfare into the city due to the waterfront road being closed.

Don't let the floods put you off coming up here for holidays, the Port races or otherwise - we're still buzzing with our laidback style. There are still heaps of things to do & see apart from Pohara & the other places in Golden Bay closed off.
There are great rivers to enjoy as well as the beaches.
We have many attractions & I am really happy that this year our family gets to have Christmas & holidays home here in Nelson as we never get bored here.

We hope you enjoy our stay with us

Just reading in the rag that the rainfall has been measured as the largest urban area rainfall ever recorded in New Zealand.

And Padmei is correct it is still all go here, hardly noticeable really. Top spot.

Jeez who do you two work for - Tourism Nelson/Tasman. Talk about a sell.

Suspect your right through Padmei - TV footage of September quake in Chch made it look like the whole place was stuffed but only a relatively small area (this is the cold bastard engineer who didn't have any property damage speaking).

Nah I don't work for tourism Nelson or even make money from companies in the tourist game.
In fact if you get me on a ranting mood I'll tell ya how 'I told ya so' that very few people in Nelson made any money from the world rugby game things that were on here & tourism is NOT the industry we should be spending money on phew- don't get me started...

In fact my post was a reassurance for people that were thinking of coming for holidays or visit that weren't sure if we were all go or not.
On the other hand I am a pretty over the top advocate for Nelson - it is THAT cool

They're crying out for more hands on deck over there and expected the student army yesterday. They may arrive today...

The SVA is so bad about contacting people that Vic wasn't sure they were even going today and got a ride over with a guy from Downers.

Anyone know how Reefton came through it?, we will be there from Christmas day on until the 2nd Jan if any KBers are rolling through, join us for a chat, drinks or repairs etc, having the truck there we have a comprehensive tool pile.

Not taking the DR this year, bro will have his there so we will wreck his instead

This is what to look for if you do drop in ... hopefully not is a big puddle ...again

Nah, everybody would be better off if the trees where used to build a bridge. Get rid of those bloody ferries. I would certainly visit one of my favourite parts of NZ more often...
