i can say everyone in the group is exceptionally aware of the road , weather and surroundings ......

most of these guys have been riding since before your mum rode your dad to create you.

I guess thats why they crashed then ... too much awareness and too much experience.

Just a pity the lack of ability to handle less than perfect roads ... let them down.

That would be the scaphoid. I broke mine 30 years ago, had it pinned and it is still and never will be right.

Northern NZ has a problem with its roads and every year it gets worse.

Whether it's cost cutting or poor workmanship I don't know, but the chip seal fails and the underlying tar bleeds to the top. When it gets wet it becomes treacherously-black ice-slippery. It holds surface water and can easily bring a novice or even an experienced rider undone. Particularly in situations with decreased visibility. I have seen it happen to old hands as well.

You would be better served by expressing your outrage at the death traps on the roadways than getting on the case of the poor schmucks it's brought undone.

Perhaps you should realise that the issue you allude to is not just a Northern problem, it's countrywide. Down here, we are well and truly aware of it, Central Otago is littered with roads like that. Difference is, is that the majority of riders are aware of the conditions and ride to them. I myself had a mishap on shiny seal a couple of years ago and broke my leg, difference is that I blamed my in-attention to the conditions, not the road surface.

The problem with the tradesman line is that not everyone riding a motorcycle is a 'tradesman'.
I'm not pointing at the crew in this video, but there are a lot are part timers, newbies, and the inexperienced out there - not doing anything wrong.
But as long as the standard of roading continues to decline these types of incidents will continue to occur. 'That' is blameworthy.

Considering the number of bikes on the ride ... three went down. On an apparently crappy road. Crappy enough for bikes to go down ... but ONLY three. The rest must have been too skilled NOT to bin on such a crappy road ...

Thats wonderful dear.So an acceptable number of offs on a straight road is dependant on the number travelling down it in a group,if enough leave there seats its a "crappy road".Could kick myself for missing it all these years.No wonder ACC have a leg to stand on.
