Nail on head, looks like a scene from any poker ride.Strangely enough from my experience the group rides ive bothered to go on involving cruiser etc bikes are far worse than riding with guys on so called sports bikes.Chuck in a few pub stops and it just gets worse. Not that these guys needed a pub jesus a wet straight road was enough to fuck them up.Glad there ok but fuck me.

which to me, meant they were too close for the conditions & the experience of pack riding.... glad to hear that all riders are ok & on the mend

Yes. That and the fact that nicely framed images of emergency services vehicles arriving, as well as explicit footage was taken of "injuries" set my Bogus Alarm off. Very loudly. I couldn't see Robyn Malcolm anywhere though.

I noticed that too - reminded me very much of the recent Navy exercise at Whangaparoa...actors as casualites, such care and attention of the injured. That chick in the short grey dress and white shoes was an anomaly....make up girl caught in the frame?

I coasted through it with the speed I had on and kept it straight with the bars not with a lean because of the wind, I saw it coming. A common problem with group riding is looking at the riders in front not the road. But this group who I ride with regularly are experienced, safe, organized and as you can see look out for each other, especially the new riders who are always going to make one small mistake(as you all should know), just this time it was the ultimate wrong place to make it, so unless you were there don't make a judgement.
touching front brakes = high side? Rather unusual...usually ends in low side when the front wheel locks.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, plenty of places in the rain that are slippery as a nipple. I recall one ride out to Raglan where it started raining and as I was cruising through a right hand sweeper (100-110kph MAX) in 6th gear on a GSXR 600, with gentle power roll on out of the corner, the rear suddenly spun up and stepped out of line. Had the front get twitchy on occasion too. Hazards of riding, same as hydroplaning in a car. Learn to handle it, ride to the conditions and give yourself exposure to the "unexpected" via such things as trackdays and the shock when it happens on the road is considerably reduced.

EDIT - this scenario reminds me of my last big group ride (last and final...) where 3 (might have been 4) newbie riders on a 250cc learners ride that I was helping with decided to try and keep up with those in front of them despite having been told to ride their own ride, even if that meant pootling along at 70kph. The result was 3 (or 4) new riders target fixating one after the other on the same corner and ending up in a ditch. they got away very luckily with scratches and bruises, however our ride wouldn't have been ruined and their bikes would have still been nice and shiny had they just taken it at their own pace.
Other than the odd run in with diesel on a wet road or a wet manhole cover etc. the only close calls I have had have been for a) riding outside my ability (trying to keep up with more talented riders...especially when I was on a 250) or b) not paying adequate attention. Rider error is more often than not a factor.

Surely if it was a professional job they would have proof read the caption at 3:25.

Now we have conspiracy theorists hahaha

No i don't think he would be a pro making an "advert" as such, seen a couple of this guys vids through FB now and though his editing is good, (perhaps a little OTT with the film clip rolls), great camera"s" etc, i'd say that's just how he rolls and made a bit of a blooper putting his mates suffering up for all to see !!

Put money on the fact they're all running similar tyres though, thats one thing i've noticed being in a "group of mates" environment does to riders, the old, these are the shiz bro, affordable and they just don't let go senario

That and the fact 2 or maybe 3 of them went with the I'll try to stop trick instead of taking evasive action !

Yeah i group ride, but prefer it to be with guys i know and know their riding habits ! Yet to learn if any of the boys i ride with might panic in a situation like this or try to flick the bike through the mess, cause the shit just aint happened !!
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

So I've just read the 4 pages of bullocks (likely more for the rest of you). Shit some of you lot need to check your tampons (sorry to all the ladies out there). Sure the "crap road surface" comment is an interesting one but personally, rubbishing the riders doesn't actually get the information everyone seems to be wanting.

To the OP, it does seem really weird that the surface is that slippery, on the straight, in which any little movement on the bike with cause an off. We have some dodgy surfaces around the Waikato caused by serious tar bleed and these are on straights. I've had my rear and front moving during normal riding but never been near to falling off. We have a slippery surface on a main road that gets bad surface flooding and cross-winds on a section of corners.

If it's that slippery I'd imagine cars would have issues as well. I'd really love to know exactly what happened. Pity the video doesn't have the all important part.

Personally, I'm not critiquing, I'm just trying to understand what went wrong (maybe even learn something in the process)

On another note, that's a nasty wrist injury that dude had...and the music wasn't that bad
