Help! My bike got run over by a van, what should I do now?

After finished work and ready to ride home, then realized the bike has changed parking spot. Had a closer look it and realized half of the fairing is scratched, handle bar is bent and indicators are smashed!!! The lady works in the other office building came out and told me the bike got ran over by a delivery van!!! Very nice of her, she recorded the delivery van's name and number and gave to me!! I'm so pissed off right now! I'm not sure what to do because my insurance just expired last month and I was stupid enough to not renew it! Do I need to contact the police make a report? Or I need to contact the delivery guy first? Any person had the same experience?

Luckily it is a delivery company so they should be insured. Also lucky you have an eye witness so you should be right. Contact the delivery company and explain as nicely as possible what happened to the management in the first instance and proceed from there.

I'd contact the police/the courier company concurrently. And raise hell.

Contact the Police AND the delivery guy Get the name and contact details of the witness to the event. The Delivery Van company's insurance will cough

    Eventually

You dont need insurance for this sort of thing, though it would have really simplified the process

    Good luck!

Had mine reversed into by a Pajaro... f'er just picked the bike up and left the fallen bits on the seat.. no note, no idea who. (just a "I saw a Pagaro do that...." comment from joeP)

Had two bikes reversed into in my 20+ years of ridding.... very selective where I park now. No where near where those drive-by-brail, f'n cell phone using, sing along to shit, do yer make up bitch, pick yer nose arsehole, door opening gits park.

I like ranting, rthanks for the invite.

As above, you dont need the insurance, but it's going to be a fair bit tougher without it.

Get a written statement from your witness immediately AND buy her a big box of Roses chocolates as thanks for being a outstanding person.

A sterling suggestion (the choccies for her, that is). Some sort of nice gesture to let her know her actions are appreciated is thoughtful.

As for "my insurance has just recently run out, I haven't got round to renewing it yet" - I don't know about anyone else, but is this starting to become a bit of a cracked record once multiple kb members are put together??

Times are tough, I know when I was a young fullah I had no insurance, certainly didn't seem so smart when my car got pinched (and even less smart the 2nd time).

Written statement from witness. Police. Phone the company also. Same thing happened with mum after she had some little wanker crunch the front of her car and drive off. Thankfully there was a witness.

If your bike gets run over by a van you clearly need to buy a bigger bike.
Or at least that is what I think your suppose to say.
