So they cannot be held liable for selling a bigger bike to a Learner? WTF? That's irresponsible!

    Thumbs up

Ya think?????????? There's no law against a dealer selling anyone any vehicle. What they then do with that vehicle is entirely their 'RESPONSIBILITY' not the dealers.
For the record any dealer worth their salt will point out that a non licensed buyer is not legally allowed to ride the bike away from the shop.
Every day above ground is a good day!:

+1......I rode for over 20 years without a licence had a range of bikes, some from private sales, some from dealers. I now have a licence ......before you ask....

Even better, the NZTA will be wearing the risk soon.

They are going to put LAMS on the licence label of bikes they think are OK for learners. My BMW K100 is on their system as 100cc. I bet it gets one.

And I bet they don't know the difference between a GSXF600 and a GSXR600 if both are called a GSX600 in their database. Which is of course what a canny importer will be calling them.

Are you talking about the LAM? The amendment act and rule were passed months ago, and takes effect from the 1st of October 2012 for the LAM. I guess they could amend the law and rule to push the date back, but it seems unlikely.

+1 to this. The only thing you need to OWN a bike is a photographic i.d. I brought my bike(privately) with a car license. I rung NZTA just too make sure. I just wasnt allowed to ride on the road
