    Adventure riding with tennis elbow

Just wondering if anyone else has suffered this condition and had to do a rapid rehabilitation.
I've got about 20 days before I do 5 days of intense riding including the Dusty Butt .....and before anyone says it, not riding isnt an option.
This seems to have been bought on by a combination of the WAR ride followed by several days intensive work on the boat tying mussel floats on and some serious fishing activity (personally I think the work was responsible)
So far I've been using a Tens machine, Ice, compression bandage and I've been resting it by only using my left hand to hold my beer glass.
All i'm asking for is a miracle cure

At least it's your right hand. When I had tennis elbow (may have been a torn ligament) back in 2000 it was my left hand and I couldn't pull in a clutch. Fortunately my XLV750 was off the road with a charging ploblem, my KT250 was being rebored and fork springs being made, and the XS650 had a carb problem. By the time my elbow was sorted so were my bikes....it's a matter of timing.

I've got photo in one of my speedway books of Peter Collins, who was competing with a broken right wrist. He put the twist grip on the left side and rode like that. All he had to remember was to twist the other way. You could try that
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Thanks guys, timing really is the issue here and I dont think its so much the throttle as squeezing the brake lever that is a concern.
Any way I've got 18 days then I'll just stock up on painkillers I guess

I had a look at your bike build thread on advrider so you're a pretty accomplished engineer. So it should be a doddle for you to buld a linked brake setup and use the foot pedal for all your braking needs.

I feel your pain... sometimes when I get tendonitis.
On the Molesworth ride the other day I tried out my ingenious cruise control device.

A mtb tyre lever with a couple of rubberbands stretched around it. I got the idea from a off the shelf professional looking number. To activate it twist the throttle open & slide the lever so it makes contact with the brake lever which holds the throttle open until you wish to close the throttle.

I can hear howls of laughter already from the bling purchasers however it gives your right hand that few minutes rest on the long straights to get the blood flowing properly. I rode from Richmond to Nelson passing cars with my right hand on the tank.

Awesome Padmei...looks kindof dangerous, but awesome all the same.
I hadn't thought as far as the cruise control devices yet, my mind has been obcessed with rehabilitation.

It's safe enough as it is only really held open by a bit of rubber band tension. It can be turned off easily & only really used when needed.
Anti-inflammatories are wonderful things for short term use.

Snorting lines of Nurofen at each fuel stop?

Sorry, not helpful I know...so while I'm at it: Padmei, the odds look good for upping the life insurance, the family could be on to a winner there! Even the inattention created by momentarily setting / adjusting the thing could cause an accident IMHO. Sorry, had to say it. 10/10 for creativity though.
There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

Been having weekly physio treatment on tennis elbow for about the last month, right hand can squeeze 140 left is only good for 40-60, right hand must be doing something ummm right..... (gutter comments to follow.....)3

Luckily the tennis elbow doesn't affect my riding at all, did the Birch Adv ride and boxing day trail ride at Maramaura without noticing any extra pain.

1500+ k's over DB1K weekend will be a good test (pain killers packed just in case)

If you have it real bad get one of those velcro compression bands for just below the elbow, do work.(reread, u got one)

My pain seems to be lessening but from what I can find out the condition tends to linger for quite a while. Think I'll head off to town for some accupuncture.

Yep, most people i've asked say that even with treatment and looking after it your still looking at 6 months and the physio says unless looked after it will never go away. Both the Doc and physio say it's a difficult injury to treat and most of the time can only be managed.

My physio is doing accupuncture as well as the physio side and I would put the brief pain i get per session from her up there with a root canal or tooth extraction!!

    Time for that cruiser........
