eek Quoted from the above link

    Class 6 (motorcycle) restricted licence

On 27 February 2012 changes will be introduced to graduated driver licensing system for motorcycles.

The restricted licence test will become longer and the full licence test will be shorter. In effect, both the test (and the test fees) will swap.

If you plan to sit your motorcycle restricted licence test on or after 27 February 2012, make sure you plenty of practice to prepare for the longer test.

The NZTA is currently developing a brand new restricted driver licence test for motorcycles. The new test will be introduced in October 2012.
Wait..... so, the new test is introduced on the 27th Febuary 2012, however the new test will not be introduced until October 2012 (8 months after it has been introduced)........

Does that make sense to anybody else?

If so, could you please explain it???

    Thank you.

Simple enough. Put something in place as a stop gap measure in the interim while the full revamp is worked on. Gotta start saomewhere.

    Makes sense to me.

Good. Make it REALLY hard so the applicants have to actually earn the priviledge to drive not just show up for a cake walk test and get given a license (like in the 80's when I did it). It should also include an English reading and writing comprehension quiz as part of the test.

Totally agree, but this Govt is more likely to produce road signs in Cantonese instead.

I sat my R in December, going to go for full this December, shortest and easiest of each =) although I hope to have clocked up at least another 10,000km on my bike by then!

Just because it's going to be easier doesn't mean I need to be a worse rider. Going to take the new test under that new LAMS thingy which should be good.

    Unhappy

Have I miss understood getting a full licence or as that also now changed?

I thought that for a driver of 20+ years over 25 years of age I needed to obtain my learners licence (6 months) then restricted (3 months) then able to sit full licence.

Now it appears I need to be on my restricted for 6 months unless I do a defensive driving course involving 8hrs theory followed by a 1hr practical test which will drop my time on a restricted down to a 3 month period and then do another practical test to get the licence.

Did I miss something when I started to get my licences 9 months ago or has it changed?
I confess to know everything there is to know about absolutely nothing at all!!!
