Detectors detect and warn of traffic radar and laser. A jammer prevents traffic laser only from getting a reading of your speed. Detectors alone are of limited use against laser because of the speed of their lock-on and that they're line of sight. There is no scatter to detect when they are out of sight, unlike radar. Fortunately laser units are not that common, they seem to mainly be used near major towns.

Everything that man said. I have the X50 and had no tickets since. It is amassing how often you pass a cop and not know it. They are great. Paid for half mine in the second week of having it. 126kmh when it went off and dropped to 90kmh before it came in to view. Top man Ryan.

I looked around a lot and the only way to go is detector. The X50 is the best I could find. The R1 will give you the direction of the signal but when mounted on a bike you can not see the display so the X50 is my advice.

hopefully one day I will have I bike quick enough to worry about needing a radar detector but once again good rep for a fellow kb'er. Any dealings I have had with KB'ers ( for my leathers and neck warmer ) have been fantastic. Keep it up guys and gals ( and keep supporting them the rest of you )

If you regularly do more than 11 k's over the limit you need one.

Haven't swapped detectors over on the bike yet, so stuck the Escort in the car for this weekend's trip to Coromandel and back. It has the amazing property of making police cars disappear entirely - not one single cop in the 400km round trip!!!! However, it did prove itself with early detection (at a guess, about 0.5 km round a curve) of a camera van at Tararu. Very promising start. Oh, and the other great thing is being able to turn of X band to filter out door openers, security systems etc.

My Valentine has the same effect at clearing the road. I think they run a CB band as well as the K & Ka & X band- that's cunning bastard band or was it cops beware band ? And those camera vans seem to give off the strongest signals.
The electronic door thingy should never be a problem because no one should be speeding through built up areas. I'm impressed the V1 picks up rearward signals when my body's blocking the view, if you know what I mean. It sits right in front of my gut, a slim trim gut of course but still surprised me it doesn't interfere with the signal.

Speeding in built up areas isn't a problem because I don't. Electronic noise from my old detector on X band was though. That's what's so good about the disable function on top of the line detectors.

Ryan set it up for NZ bands only. I know 2 other riders with V1 who never get false alarms like I get sometimes from 4wds, vans and trucks. Also I get alerts from other Detectors and the odd concrete road structure like motorway bridges and ramps? Weird that but its only a few and they always trigger the alarm at the same point each time I pass.
I wondered at first if it was because the commercial vans & trucks had two way radios (RT? is that the name) that set it off but SOME 4wds, like stink ugly pajeros and Landcruiser etc, can set it off. I put that down to these vehicles being so bloody obnoxious and ugly that they emit a smelly signal. Oh have I let it slip out again how much I detest these oversized gas guzzling, polluting,view obscuring, parking space encroaching road hazards that should not be on urban roads. Shame. The inevitable rising cost of gas will eventually remove these heaps from our roads when their values plummet as everyone tries to get out of them at once. Back to the point, Ryan was good to deal with and the V1 plus H.A.R.D.was well worth the $$

Not since I turned off X and K bands. If the Ka false alarm guard is disabled on a V1, you can get Ka falses though. Unless you've done that yourself, I doubt it's an issue.

Thanks Lou. I might chat to Ryan to see what he did. I don't get any X and K band warnings so I assume he shut these down correctly. What's this Ka false alarm guard that you can disable? The detector has an ALL bands selection, or logic or smart logic that you can switch between at a push of the buttton but it doesn't seem to make much difference on mine what I choose.
