They survived unharmed? That'd rule out Biff...

If I told you who he was, I'd have to kill you before you told anyone else, or he'd kill me. He has a mate who is a cop, and the cop has done about the same speed down that road on his own bike!

That's either a good call or just plain selfish.

In the spirit of being "community minded" let's call it a good call (dammit LOL)

I get the feeling it was one of those "I've got this bike for a test ride, let's see what it can do" rather than a "I know I can do 300kph down this road" instances.

He's not the kind of guy who goes like the clappers for the sake of it, he is what I would class a safe rider. This was many years ago and I doubt very much he'd be keen to repeat it - nowadays he saves this kind of speed (if he had a bike capable of it!) for the track. And after a young guy lost control of his car along Motuiti Road and killed himself when he collided with a tree (the car burst into flames - I won't go into detail but you get the picture), he has a lot more respect for that road.

Me, I was happy to see about 170 on the clock on the RG150 at Manfeild once - probably only about 140 in reality, knowing that speedo, but I felt like I was flying! No great desire to go much faster on a bike because I know my limitations. But good luck to the guys trying to break the record, they obviously have balls - I don't ('cos I'm a girl )!

The seven mile road just outside of Oamaru is a seven mile stretch of very flat road. I think there have been a number of speed attempts there and its not too far from ChCh.

    World Record Breaking in NZ

Reading the thread on our search for another road in NZ that we can use to lift the WOrld Record that we set last week there are some other criteria that need to be considered and i would appreciate any help or advice that you can offer.

1- The road needs to be within 1% gradient for at least 4km
2- surface must be flat and with minimum camber, bumps can be repaired, camber can not.
3- Telegraph poles, trees, fences, pylons etc. must be as far as possible from the road, non existent if possible!
4- a suitable diversion must exist for regular users of the road.
5- The GOvt will not allow us to close State Highways so we are automatically down to B roads.
6- Permission will need to be gained from all landowners and residents, for the road in Chertsey i had to write to 28 people even though we actually went passed only 2 houses

Any suitable roads that you guys know of, please add these things into the mix and see if they stack up.

to answer the guy who has been as fast on his roadbike, did you hold the throttle pinned against the stop for 13 seconds? ...Twice

Hey, good job, congrats on the record
So the Tram Road, South Eyre Road etc are out? Suppose too busy these days to close?

    Re long bit of road

what about the "South Eyre Rd " in North canterbury, I think its NZ longest straightest bit of Road, used to work in the area,(Oxford) when i was about.... well a long time ago.. maybe some of the Christchurch riders could confirm.

You might have to do Ninety Mile beach to get anything the long and flat up here Shouldn't laugh really because land speed records have been done on flat sandy bits before.
