Looking like a twit. Biker Style

I never realised how much of an idiot you can look like pushing a bike around town after it breaks down.

I was driving through town a while ago, when the bike cut out at the intersection. Idled low, so I gave it a small amount of revs to keep the engine alive, but it cut out nonetheless. Tried to restart it and it wouldn't budge. No turnover, nothing. Just went clickclickclick. I called my Mum to let her know what the hell was going on, and they came out to try and help me. Called a few of my Dad's friends to see if they could help me. One of them gave me hints over the phone, but couldn't help more than that, As he was at a birthday for his son. So we made another call to Richard who came and managed to get the thing started for me. Man is a legend. I managed to get it home without anymore major hassles. I owe both of them beers big time.

Never looked like such a twit in my life....

You should try riding a scooter. They look like twits, especially in their suits.
Rest in peace Tony - you will be missed.

What was wrong? Electrical, bad contact in circuitry?

Funny that, I had almost the exat same experience today, except the Yamaha Zeal I was riding overheated. It was a hot afternoon and I was stuck in slow traffic quite a lot, but I was surprised that a water-cooled bike could still experience that.

Waited a few minutes and started it up again but was sluggish till I started moving more briskly and that probably helped cool the bike down? Dunno, but once I got on the motoerway it was back to normal... Oh, and the damned speedo cable came loose again!

Had a snapped clutch cable in traffic once =( was going sweet til I got a red light =( had to chuck her in neutral and push it about 1km to a scooter shop cos it was closest to where I was. Motorbike in full gear in the sun pushing it down the foot path waiting for pedestrian crossings

I pushed my old FZR1000 all round Oriental Bay in full bike gear during broad daylight. So not cool.

It's still cooler than walking round without a bike. (Not literally of course)

I'd be flushing the coolant and checking the thermostat and fan are operating OK.

A liquid cooled bike shouldn't be overheating like that, something sounds messed up.

Depends. The Gixxer does too. Fans kicks in and temp comes down, fan stops, temp rises, etc...until the bike is moving fast enough to generate the required airflow through the radiator. BUT...
While it is really hot, don't turn the engine off or stall it. There is some sort of temperature sensor over-ride on the starting circuit. Manifests in sluggish turnover of the starter. Like a flattish battery.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

It's normal for water cooled bikes to overheat when they're moving at very slow speeds on a warm day, like when stuck in traffic. My old MC19 used to do that and the GSXR does it as well.

I lived in Maungaturoto for a year. At the time I had a Benelli 250 Supersport.

Now Maungaturoto is hilly. And my Benelli threw off the ignition flywheel at the BOTTOM of the hill that I lived on top of. I had to push that muthafucker all the way up the steep hill. All the local school kids knew who I was (I was a teacher) and the little bastards gave me shit all the way up the hill. Not a single one of them would help push - they just fell about on their arses laughing like drains. Fucking little sods...

I ran out of fuel at the begining of the Rakaia bridge, coasted as far as I could and then had to push the hobbit bike 1.5kms to the mobile on the other side. It was really hot with all the gear on and quite freaky as the bridge is not wide, has no overtaking lines and the traffic didn't slow down any....
