    Before the carnage

As some of you may know I had taken off two months for a South Island adventure ride and fishing trip. The first half was solo and couldn't have played out any more perfect and was a seamless dream trip, not one day of rain, fantastic tracks ridden, stunning places visited, stacks of GPS logs for the website and simply fantastic fishing. The second half my father was joining me and we were kicking things off by doing the DB1K then carrying on for another 3 1/2 weeks riding, fishing and camping. Unfortunately we were plagued with issues from our departure date with the final piece of bad luck being my father (Jeff) having a spill on day one of the DB1K and we were forced to head back to Christchurch due to a pretty well beaten up shoulder and knee. We are rescheduling at this stage and will pick up where we left off when he has recovered, but for the time being here are some photos of the first month…

    Nice pics.

Can I also congratulate you on your website. Been really enjoying it, and fantastic info, as a mate and I will do Rainbow, Molesworth and Lees/Okuku after the TT2000 for the very first time. By the way, which way do you think going through Lees is the easier option? Or much of a muchness?

Thanks Gremlin, Lees valley is much of a muchness either way, I can't recommend adding in Mailing Pass and Edwards Pass enough when you are doing the Rainbow, both of these are great with Edwards being my favourite

Hi Aslan, great to briefly catch up over the weekend, so glad to hear you knocked off the DB1K in spite of a shoulder injury, nice job

Your bike is the BIZ Josh. I was hoping someone could keep you talking for a while at the briefing so I could slip some goodies off it.

Completely agree. Found them on your website (via a link/report from here somewhere). Monday after TT2000 is Lees Valley then up to Hanmer, and based there for two nights, Tuesday doing Rainbow, Edwards Pass and Mailing Pass. Then Wednesday continue north via Molesworth...

Sorry about your dad and your plans going astray. Hopefully they'll get back on track.

I read the full account of the first month, a great write up with awesome photos. I'll try to get to some of those places when we're down Sth in March April.

Your site is fantastic and mega amounts of work doing the articals not only in the trips but the write ups. Thanks a million for sharing with us.

From here http://www.procycle.us/bikepages/drz400.html the plate mount is a little on the heavy side being mild steel but it is a nice looking unit and a good price at $US109 for the mount, a nice LED taillight, 4 indicators plus fork brackets for the front indicators

Foiled, you got me! I am actually a lousy fisherman, I just take a rubber fish around with me and take photos of it in different locations... the shame

Oh what have I done! Too many nice things on that page!

FYI I got the seat concepts foam and cover and was really impressed by it. Pretty much the same weight as the standard seat (although I didn't weigh it) and my bum was never sore during the whole DB. The standard seat maximum I could handle was 2 hours but I am really happy with the seat concepts one.
