    Kms x tyres

What do you folks consider to be resonable Km,s for the tyres you run?
What are they and what sort of riding do you do on em,?
    Cheers,

Global warming means warmer climate and road, thus less kms on tyres.

    In 99, I got 12000k out of a set of BT56.
    In 00, I got 8000k out of a set of BT56.
    In 01, I got 7000-8000k out of a set of BT010.
In 02, it was down to a mere 6000k for a set of BT010.
    In 03, a front BT010 would give me a mere 4000k of enjoyment. A rear would last a bit longer (e.g. 5000k).

It is time to limit ozone depletion, otherwise the tyre cost would be too great to bear.

    Hi Jackrat.

Have used and liked several different brands of tyres.

On my two R850Rs I ran Metzeler Z3 front, Z4 rear. Got average 10,000kms rear, 14,000km front. Could possibly have gotten another 1 or 2 thousand kms, but I don't like running my tyres too low in the tread dept. they tended to triangle-off after a while on the front, took a bit of getting used to the new round ones when I replaced them. Type of riding? Mainly long trips, I'm not a hard fast rider, cruise around 120kph where it's reasonably safe cop-wise to do so. To give you an idea of how I ride, my chicken strip is about 1cm wide.

On my R1150R I run Michelin Pilot Roads, as does my hubby on his R1100S. He rides slightly harder than me but not much, as he usually rides behind me. We used to run Macadams, but you can't get them any more - the Pilot Road has replaced them. He got 14,000kms out of a rear Pilot Road on his bike.

On my Monster, I am in the process of changing over to Pirelli Diablos. It came shod with Pirelli Evos. First one lasted 4,200kms (!!) - combination of soft sticky tyre, and a South Island tour where the chip on the road grips like shit to a hairy blanket but eat rubber. Replaced the rear half way through the holiday in Alexandra, with a Pirelli GTS. Replaced the front Evo at my 10,000km service with a Diablo, have about 1500kms left on the GTS and have a rear Diablo ready to go on.

Our mate Tony with a K3 GSXR1000 went through a Dunlop 207 in 1,500kms. That's not a typo, I mean 1,500kms. However he rides very very very fast and hard - he won the Wairarapa hillclimb last year. He then changed to a Pirelli GTS rear and got 5,000kms out of that. He then put another GTS on. He has no chicken strip at all, and lots of chunks of rubber all over the sides.

    We average around 20-25,000kms/year.

Hope this is of some interest.

The 750 Turbo runs 130-80/18 rears and 110-80/18 front, sport touring to hard riding, 4000-4500ks from the rear and 5000-5500ks from the front.
No matter what tyre I use all the same, Shinko, Metezler, Dunlop.

I am much the same as Tony, I was getting about 3-3500km's per rear - mainly running M1's/B012's etc. No real touring on the tyres just weekend riding - mainly hard riding. Lowest is about 1800-2000km on a set of Rennsports RS2's.

I think it is a case of horses for courses - so many things affect wear rates - speed, road surfaces, smoothness of throttle, camber, tyre choice, the bike, solo or two up, tyre pressures.

I have found if I am diligent with tyre pressures - my tyres wear better (but not neccessarily last longer).

If this is for the XS 650 I'm not much help - the odo has never worked in all the time I've had it.I also tend to look in my stack of very old tyres, and think ...hmmm,wonder how that would go.At the moment I have a Metzler Perfect on the rear - the perfect tyre for these bikes, and a very old brand new Dunlop K70 0n the front.I'll never wear these out as the bike doesn't get much use, plus I'm easy on tyres.

The tyres I run on my XLV 750 wouldn't be considered road tyres to those here, but they are to me.The last front lasted 17,000km,the TKC80 I have now will go maybe 10,000km,it's looking a bit stressed already at 6000.The rears usualy go about 4 or 5000km - gravel chews them up.The XT 400 has DOT knobs, these things aren't going to last long at all.

Metzlers are good - but suffer more from wear than the Pirerlli's do.

I have heard the same thing about the Avons in the wet. I wouldn't ride Dunlop if I were paid to

i think i must have gotten around 15years and 30,000 out of the rear on the GS1000, still on there, shes now a slick but its all good.

If what the last owner told me is true then he did about 1,000km on the rear once i got it (and yeah it looked pretty new) and ive done another 8,000 and just REPLACED IT WITH A BRAND NEW $180 PERELLI SPORTS DEMON!! can you believe it? i bloody well bought my 3rd ever brand new tyre... im hoping for over 10,000 but will just have to learn how to ride because my ME22 was bald in the centre and had 100% tread on the sides... why do my tyres always look this way? anyways the sports demon was a xmas pressie to myself! instead of the Kendra $115 i was going to put on...

I'm getting good wear out of my avons...and guess what? not scary in the rain at all. Previously the older avons were just slick at the sides and were treacherous, but the new design has been great, and no dramas on our 600 k ride last weekend in the rain. I've had 7000 k out of the set so far(including one day at the track), and still plenty of tread front and rear. The rear is a sports tourer, since it's a V twin I decided to use something harder wearing...the previous pirelli SC lasted 2500 on the rear.

Used to get about 8000 miles out of a rear on the ZZR600, and about 6000 miles to a rear on the ZX9R on bridgestones (BT49, 56,57).

    My CB1100 is running Meltzeler ME33 / ME99 (110/90 x 18 front & 130/80 x 17 rear). They hang on well and last at least 8,000 K. I don't really thrash the old girl these days - cruise 120 - 130.
Used to run Avon Supervenoms which were good, but they stopped making the front. The rear did not like a Metzeler up front, so ran a Michelin A39.
Overall the Metzler's are the go in my opinion. Should suit the XS well.

10,000km's so far out of a rear Avon AV46, maybe 1000 more in it.
130wide, what was the Shinko like?

I have used Shinko on the '84 GPz1100, they are on it now, they last quite well, i haven't bothered keeping a record of distance travelled though.
130wide has it (the bike) at the moment so he maybe able to give a comparison between his (radials) and mine (cross ply).
In my experiance they are great in rain or shine. I have done the southern cross and two thousand milers on them. Not on the same set though. Heaps of rides around east cape and the coromandel as well.

On the Turbo, I have been using Shinko Sport Master Pro 130/80/18, after riding "GPz" GPz1100 I can't say there's much difference between the two except for maybe price, I think I picked up a rear for around $160.
I have just replaced both front and rear on the Turbo to ME99 rear and ME330 front, was going for the ME550 rear but none in the country for 2-3 months. Hopefully get the Turbo back on the 23rd to take to Wanganui if not I'll be on the 1100.
