    bloody awesome pics!!!!!!!!

thanks a lot for that bart, and your tour guiding
enjoyed that takapari road, nice and challenging
pauls ankle ok today..bit swollen and cause for hopping etc but pretty sweet
the rest of the ride was bloody good too, lots gravel further up the valley
along those sheer grey cliffs by the river etc..we went right to the dead end of
rangitane i thinks its called then doubled back to continue to taihape
state highway one is always a distasteful way to be bought back to reality eh!

taihape provided pies and coffee etc, then home via some gravel and a tyre
repair on gavins ttr250 to keep us honest, loodsa fun!

    chur !

    Ride 1

5 'churbros set out from hastings at 7am on the sunday.

    The mission: Find takapari road.

'twas a nice cool hb morning as we set off down middle road, past the pub, ending up at waipawa bridge.

On to onga then takapau and the backroads to dannevirke.

Bart had the 'black brat' ready to rumble when we arrived at his house.
After a short introduction to his new family, 6 of us set off in search of advenchur.

The 'chur did not take long to arrive !

'decoy' rider, bro2, had a little bit of trouble on a lh on the saddle road !
Coming up behind a sports type bike, he attempted a passing manoeuvre exiting a lh bend.
The sb crossed the centre-line, with bro2 beside her, headed for the rhs of the road in the oncoming traffic lane, forcing bro2 into the gravel verge. On the rhs, ffs !
Instinctively bro2 powered through, but was left wondering, 'wtf' ?

Bro2 then got the hell out of the way and started catching up to bro7, bart.

    Bad move........
Bro2 powered the 650r out of a tight bend and the olde rear knobbly let go !!!
When we got to ashurst, b2 couldn't wait to inform us of his morning's highlights !

After filling the bikes and a spot of tea, we shot up the very scenic pohangina valley east road.
We then stopped at an old army mate's place for a photographic opportunity.

A few kms further along we came to takapari road and bart led the way to the summit.
A very nice ascent with a few minor challenges thrown in.
We spent a great deal of time at the summit taking in the expansive views.

Time to head down and some of the steep ascents became hazardous descents.
Bro6 unfortunately had two front wheel wash-outs, both times the dr650 landing on his right ankle.
Bro 6 was a very sorry but staunch boy and wanted to carry on, but a wise olde man in our group, who had experienced this all before, insisted that he return to vegas with bart to minimise any further catastrophe.

We bade farewell to bros 6 & 7, and headed towards mangaweka.

Some amazingly scenic gravel roads and valleys awaited our exploration..
Some very 'technical', then hard-out open roads were excitedly devoured !

    The bros were pumpin' !!

After many enjoyable hours, some unintended but thrilling dead-ends, a light-hearted stream crossing, the remaining bros emerged at sh1, about 10km south of taihape.

Waiting at this intersection of sh1, the churs were a bit fazed at this sudden, surreal
    emergence into civilisation !

-queued cars zipping by in both directions at 100kmh is a surprising culture shock after spending so many hours off the beaten track-

we decided ''we didn't like it''......

    Taihape was loud !

We filled up everybody and everything, then eagerly departed for the final 161km to napier.

Sounds straight forward...but we were wary of history repeating.

Everytime we go on an adventure, someone (bro2) always gets a puncture 50km from home....

SURE ENOUGH BRO4 succumbed to the curse and we all pulled over and broke out the new tubes, 17'', 18'', 21'' thank you very much, Sir !

Having been in this predicament before, we had brought EVERYTHING !!!...tubes, patches, tyre levers, silicon spray, CO2 cannisters ,hammer.....you name it we had it !

After an easy 20 minutes or so, Bro2 had the rear tyre all up and running and the boys resumed the journey.

The day had gone with Military Precision.
The BROS' commando training was surely paying dividends .

10km from home one of the BROS, realising he had a spare helmet with him, picked up a hitch-hiker near Fernhill, put him on the back of his machine and dropped him off in Taradale !
