Saw a shiney, new, production Yamaha V-Max with 300HP as standard. It was an outboard engine but.
My daughter telling me like it is:

Yamaha also use the motor in jetskis and snowmobiles.

The V-max is no faster than a Honda 250.

AS posted in the other thread man, the Vmax was short shifted below 4,500 revs.

Proper start is in second gear running all the way to 8,000 and keeping it above 6,000 would have been much faster.

    250?

yeah right! first gear is needed, 2nd gear start is not faster.
    i havent seen a 250 do 10.8! as recorded on a vmax in 1985.

SEcond gear keeps it from flipping. (or atleast keeps me from worrying about it flipping)

And guess what, my bike is a 1985 model
