4-6 Feb 2012 - Waikato Ride/Camping/No Way In Hell Enduro.

Over the weekend of the 4/5/6th of Feb I plan to do a bit of a ride around the Waikato/Pirongia/Kawhia region.

I figure a decent ride around the place on saturday, pretty casual km's plenty of gravel. Camp somewhere, hopefully close to a nice beach (Kawhia maybe or Kaniwhaniwha Campsite in the forest).
Sunday, pop into watch a bit of the No Way in Hell Enduro(flyer here) (Video here...), sunday afternoon some more gravel camping Marokopa?
Monday, maybe return to watch some more of the No Way In Hell and merrily make my way back to Auckland.

From looking on google maps/mapsource topo maps I can see plenty of roads/tracks around the place that should be worth of a look just to see where they go/end.
Kaimango Road, Gayne Road, Soundy Road, Taharoa Road, Pomerangi Road. plenty of places I have not been and seem worthy of a look.

I am not very keen on this becoming a large group ride/guided ride, just interested to see if anyone is keen to join me.

I tried to call the Doobie Bro's but they seemed unwilling to move the concert to Kawhai, so you might be out-of-luck.

So no takers to join me for some camping?

I will be going ahead with the ride solo, if solo or small group, I will probably just renegade camp somewhere for both nights (weather dependent of course).

By the sounds of it the No way in hell starts on the sunday afternoon at 4pm, so I shall work the riding around that.

Plan so far is ***EDIT EDIT EDIT**** Sunday 10am leaving the north shore, heading south, probably down SH22 to Raglan, around the Mount Karioi down to Kawhai backroads around there Operau, Okupata Road sort of thing, find a nice river to swim in around there (assuming/wanting the weather will be hot).

Monday a few more roads around the forest keeping nearish to Operau. No way in hell enduro kicks off at 4pm, so want to be there to catch that.

Not sure if I will camp another night down that way or head back home, will see how the day goes.

Cheers Cary, I appreciate the offer. Always good to have a good plan-B when you plan-A does not exist.

A mean weekend of riding and watching others do some mean riding at the "No way in hell" hard enduro.

    The wild west coast.

Greg enjoying the view somewhere south of Raglan.

    Looking down over Kawhia

No way in hell enduro, doing it wrong.

    Trials vs Enduro.

    Camping

    Awaroa River

Went for a walk up a small side stream, about 300m up it all ended with this 15m high rock face.

Walking back down this small stream.

    We man, we made fire.

    Greg Enjoying the fire

Kawhai Harbour with planes crop-dusting below us.

    Mt Taranaki in the clouds/fog.

And about 30mins after seeing Mt Taranaki, here is Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngauruhoe.
