When is the TT2000 website going to be back up and running?

I spoke to Jenni at some length, yesterday, and despite my best arguments she believes that fatigue and speed are likely to complete the course in the time allowed. Of course, we know that's not true, but her belief is firm. I asked how many speeding tickets were issued to TT riders, and she said "very few" (anecdotally, it's about 3) in the 230,000 km that the riders covered. Three quarters of the riders covered just the minumum 2000 km without getting sufficient points for the various grades of awards. No crashes were reported to her. In other words, the results as far as attracting the law's attention goes are consistent with the past three events. She did bring up the matter of Nolan Going's fatal crash in 2010, but given that she hadn't (as of yesterday) read either the SCU or Coroner's reports, this is a red herring. The coroner concluded that the death was a tragic accident. Jenni did say, however, that the riders behaved and she was pleased with the outcome.

    Good shit!

She'll know in her heart she over-reacted.

I asked her why she made all the fuss just two days before the start, and she said that that was when she found out aboiut the rally, which was brought to her attention by one of her staff. I also pointed out that after the Coroner's report was released Mike had written to the Nelson police offering to cancel future TT2000s (the report came out two months before the 2011 rally) if there was any concern at all from the police that the event itself, or the running of it, in any way gave them doubts about trally. He had no reply to that offer.

Over-reaction? Wait till next year. Despite the TT's year by year success and very low numbers of tickets and even lower number of spills, she claims that a joint operation with Canterbury and Southland district cops will be undertaken. Sigh! We'll see.

Mike told me that he hasn't yet made a decision about a 2013 TT2000. That decision won't be influenced by Jenni's comments or actions.

I tend to agree with that. All that 'bad' publicity will mean more people will want to take part next year which I am sure will change the tone of the whole event. Not sure whether the organisers will want that or not.

Increased numbers participating ... means more likelyhood of an "off" on the weekend ... thus proving we are a danger to ourselves and need protecting. For our own good

aye may be true on some points but on the hole, I think those that will do it, will be in it for the challenge

    That is sad.

On that basis alone I might be tempted to give it a whirl..

On the basis that this week the wife came out directly and said I shouldn't have a motorbike I'm in as well.

Jesus I laughed my ass off when I read that! My wife wouldn't let me sell my bike because, as she put it "you'll just whinge and moan that you don't have a bike and I can't take it!".

Why don't you tell her she shouldn't have any shoes, same difference.

So how about doing the ride in your official capacity? If you and Snake Eyes were to volunteer to assist Rastuscat to patrol the route on Police bikes, we could have an offical police presence ensuring the ride is safe.
    Time to ride
