Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. (John 15:13)
I did this ride for the first time. I saw 2 cops the whole time. One cruising past who made no attempt to stop me. The other on the way home when I was on the side of the road with a flatty and he just went straight past with no interest in helping even though it was the middle of nowhere. I did 2038kms in the 48hrs and had 8 hrs sleep each night. This was certainly not a race for me but was for the enjoyment of seeing the South Island and meeting others with the same idea and being able to travel in a group with them.
Personally I like long distance travel and 12 hours in the seat means nothing to me. I take the breaks I need and if I get tired I stop.
Yep, I completed Diamond. Mike adding the extra 4 hours in meant I slacked off more, mucked around on the Saturday night instead of going to bed etc. Still catching up on blogs, but all the info will be in the KB blogs. I did about 3147km in 51.75 hours ish (didn't stop Friday night, stopped Saturday night).
I dunno, he ain't riding like he used to. I now have fun making him jealous
Saw very few cops during the weekend (none in Hakataramea Pass or Danseys Pass funnily enough), and the few I did see were out hunting, and none stopped me. Us BMW riders are quite responsible doncha know.
However, I came across Harleys in the Upper Buller, and their lines were atrocious and going slowly. If this is the kind of standard she possibly rides at, then I can fully understand why she might be horrified. We however ride far betterI'm quite happy to offer the pillion seat to a cute cop chicky for next years TT (assuming it goes ahead), basic route of 2000km, to prove how easily it can be done. However, I fear they might slow me down constantly wanting to stop...
I was stopping every 400-500km, sometimes less, to eat, drink (or drink while passing through town on a hydrabak) and a toilet stop... I've achieved Diamond this year, miiiiight look at Gold next year to complete a silver, gold, diamond collection, but will probably do basic so I can start enjoying all the good roads, taking long lunches etc

Was that on Sunday?
I ask because a workmate had been in the Nelson area for the weekend, and explained to me that on Sunday they drove back to Chch. From just north of the Kawatiri Junction, they were forced to follow a group of HD's through to Murchison. The group had a support vehicle, and combined with spacing between the bikes which would not allow safe overtaking even though the bikes were travelling at 75-80 kmh, caused them quite the frustration.
I explained that, as you say, TT2000'rs would be riding far betterer.

Has Mike sent out a results email yet? I cruised round for a Bronze - got 7300 points and then stopped taking photo's. Total distance 2140km's. Forgot the Burkes Pass sheet and took a photo of the cemetery, not the church which i believe was the correct spot so most likely now 7200 points.
To anyone that ever told you you’re no good… They’re no better.
info (at) tt2000 (dot) org (so the evil spiders don't get it)
I think Mike sends out specific emails to sub groups, ie, 2000km riders don't get the flyer stuff etc, keeps results a bit more private.
