Under tree rescue

Well, Bought this today!

Spent half the day getting it going, Rode it less front brake calipers around the block and its pretty fun!

Been sitting for 7 years under a tree with a tarp on it, so its going to take a while to get it back in good nick!

Looking for places in Auckland for:

Welding petrol tank.
Media blasting:
Powder coating or cad coating:

Any experience anyone?

It is good to see a bike "rescued" from under a tarp and used again :-)

A tube of 'Knead it' and a couple cans of spray paint should cover the welding and powder coat aye bro

Yeah i thought of doing that but probably will strip it down and do it the hard way.
Just got to get the remains of this bloody landie disco out of my face!

Hopefully broken car will do that next weekend!

Have to re reg the bike so i dont know if a dulux recon will cover it.......

33.000 miles, so 56000km. and its a 93.

Its going to take a bit to clean it all up and free up the stuck bits!

Surface rust on the frame and swing arm along with fluffy surface corrosion on the engines really the worst bits!
Carbs need a good clean out and the fuel tank will need some patches under the bottom.

May scrub it up to get it on the road for summer and fresh it up over winter...

Plastic side covers took hours to clean up, the last owner had duck taped them as in the first photo, the sticky was like concrete on one!
The other side was a different brand tape and was easier to clean up. Few blemishes, but ok for now.

Just been getting the Africa Twin back on the road with some new bit, a rebuild & paint of the panels. Need to do the tank yet and rebuild the rear shock then in another year or so I'll tear down the motor for a rebuild (about to roar past 100,000km).

Don't get too carried away, those bikes are proud of their scars.

Carbs have been off, Runs good on both lungs, little rough when warm but im going to get carb kits and new emulsion tubes as at 33k originals will be worn. That should sort that out!
Have to look at front rim repair due to brake fluid corrosion.
Bit of rust neutralizer for the surface rusty bits and a bit of paint here and there and should be good!
Brake and fuel tap seals and some other odds and ends on the way from the UK.
Few parts for the gold passivated coat just to look cool.
May whip the muffler to bits and free it up after its vinned..... its tooo quiet! no one will hear me hunting them down on the trails!

Oh and this was going to be a full strip, well...

Surgery yesterday, biopsy.. so i think get it going and perhaps enjoy it while i can!

Wire brush gets the worst off and its solid as, rust converter and zinc paint!

See how winter looks.... LOL
