I find it strange that you need to do this. I helped out another rider with a Montana and the route files worked fine. also it's very strange that you can get two to work but not the other two. changing to a track will probably work but it is not the way it is designed to be used.

Here's the second day of the Dusty Butt Adventure 2012.
This video is a couple of minutes longer than part 1 at 13 & a half minutes so might test some peoples attention span a little, just like the ride does at times in real life.

Ryan, it turned out that mine would only open the Main A and Main B+Clnge but not the Main A+Clnge or Main B routes.

Also several of the routes you loaded for me from your Adventure Routes site wouldn't open.

Grant and I ran through parts of the DB route during our trip after Christmas to the Catlins. When we were on sections of the routes the DB track would disappear at times. I wondered if I was using the wrong scale and the track was just "off screen".

If you are back in Christchurch I would be keen to drop it back around for you to have another look.

    Thanks

    Ken

Sounds like a GPS issue with file compatibility to me, I just checked all 4 DB1K files and they loaded without issue on my computer maps, GPS (Garmin 62s) and the GPS XML code looks absolutely fine. I have never had issues with any of Ryan's ADVroutes GPX files either.

I have written my own PHP script to generate GPS files for www.adventureguide.co.nz, basically it churns out a simplified GPX file with minimal XML tags to maximize compatibility with various GPS units. As part of the process it omits max/min latitude/longitude parameters as these can cause issues with some units. Personally I will be using Ryan's GPX files for the DB1K as they are fine but I will talk to Ryan later regarding the option to make a set of the simplified GPS files available on the DB1K downloads page, if these don't solve the issue with your unit then you may need to look at the unit itself causing the problem.

Hi Pomgolian. I have had the same issue as KenB above in that my Montana will not open two of the four routes. It works fine with Main A and MainB+Clnge, but will not open the other two. I posted my settings higher up this page and note that you said you have different settings. How are they different? I'm keen to try your settings to see if it will sort this problem.

    Cheers.

Hi i couldnt see all the sub menus in the routing but after looking closer it seems the same, the only diference i use is under set up-map- i use the small data fields instead of Nuvi but shouldnt make any diference, i also only have Topo Aus & NZ v3 enabled, just tried all four again and they all load & can GO TO on each.

Gidday Mate. I sent you an email (email address you supplied with your registration) with some of the changes that ADVGD suggested. Keen for you to have ago with the new files and let me know if they work. Get in touch please - your my guinea pig given I can't get my hands on a Montana at the moment.

Apologies, I was away a couple of days. Thanks for the email and files. I have found a solution and sent back details by email. It appears that two of the routes (MainA+Clnge and MainB) were slightly too big for the Montana (or at least for my one with its current settings). My solution was to delete 2-3 waypoints in each route and it now opens all the files fine. I picked waypoints that were along reasonably straight runs and hence not that significant. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

If anyone else is having problems with a Garmin Montana, I am happy to pass on what I learned.

    Cheers, J

Yuh I had just about come the same conclusion. I picked up a Montana yesterday and found I had to remove 2 waypoints from route B to get it to load.
Interesting as route A which does load has quite a few more waypoints.
Editing the gpx or deleting WP on the unit work equally well.

Hi all Montana users. Flicked an email to tony at kiwigps last nightght and he had no obvious solutions. Suggest you stick with the remove a couple of way points approach.
