Helmets on aircraft flights?

I have a couple of times now, didn't have any problems (although both flights were National flights)

Thanks guys. I took one out to the Napier airport last year to check and the staff member there said no.

I have also flown no problems a couple of years ago wearing full leathers carrying my helmet.

if you have a helmet bag, its just carry on luggage, no? Id be worried about it getting all scratched up and rooted in the overhead locker

I flew Auckland > Palmerston Nth a couple of years ago with mine and had no issues.
Picked up the bike and rode home.
Good fun actually.

Unfortunately motorcycle helmets cannot be taken as carry on luggage and would need to be checked in

I've seen guys bringing new ones in boxes back from Oz as carry on. As HDC said, just use your helmet bag. I guess their policy is to stop you smashing people in the face with it. I reckon the official policy and what's enforced must be different

I got a foam helmet case from W Whites and carried my helmet to Canada and back with no problems. It fitted into the overhead lockers.

you've seen what the monkeys who throw luggage for a living do with people's luggage? No way would I be checking a helmet.

balls to that. We had our helmets in carry-on helmet bags .... not way they where going in the baggage area..... but it was our only carry on luggage for our trip to Oz....
