690 Enduro - oil in the airbox

I have a tendency to rest my bike on it's side at times. I believe this sometimes causes oil to drain back into the airbox somehow. I have twice found a fair bit (maybe 50~100 ml) of oil in my airbox. Anybody else had this happen?

Yes definitely my bike must have the same imbalance system as yours ... I always thought Suzukis and KTM were wired differently

They are. My DRZ never puked oil anywhere when it lay down. Orange bikes must have weaker stomachs...

Oil in the air box? Don't you think it might be from the air filter? I think oil would struggle to get through the carb.

50 to 100 ml of oil in the air box is a lot of oil, it must run like a drunken sailor when it goes back through the carb
    ....wherezz that track go

The carb? You got a carb? Nope, no smoke. The shape of the airbox means most of it pools at the front unless I do a monster wheelie... not. I only know there's some spillage when I check the oil level. Had to top up the oil twice so far in 6000 km but at least I'm pretty sure it's puking, not burning, oil. Pretty sure it's coming from the breather pipe which plugs into the airbox near the front.

Well the strange chaps at KTM decided to put a paper!? air filter in the 690 so there's probably no oil in that. Or at least there wasn't until I involuntarily oiled mine. And we don't do old fashioned carbs in the 690 world. We have flash, gee whiz fuel injection.

I just found my TT gearbox breather is T'd to the airbox and behind the right footpeg. Where it splatters over the right hand side of the tyre. Been wondering how it was getting splattered when the chain is on the other side...

Carb...injection...it's all the same really. Turns fuel and air into something that goes BANG.

And I thought the oil in the bottom of my air box was from the over oiled crappy K&N filter....oh well.

Yep - the crankcase breathes into the air box small amount of oil normal - 100mls a bit much.

The breather system on the 690 is not as simple as I thought. The route oil would have to take to get into the air box is pretty circuitous. So I'm not sure simply lying the bike down should allow significant amounts of oil into the box. Something I'll need to monitor and fix if it still spits oil even if not dropped.
