You simply haven't ridden enough of them. Or good enough ones.

Perhaps I'll pop by some time and see if you can tempt me to trade up.

I have to say, though, the Nightster really does feel like precisely what I want to be riding.

Having ridden it (isn't it a small world?) I totally concur.

And I've come to it spoiled by modern sprotbikes and whatnot. I can only imagine how mindblowing it would've been when it came out.

Nah - Road King, Ultras, Street and Road Glides are the Tourers. CWB and I differ on what is best handling big block. My vote is still with the Touring Rigs.

Went for a skid with these chaps recently.

The Street Glide kept pace very nicely through some west Brizzy twisty bits. As usual the comment was 'That was a "spirited ride". I didn't know they went like that'.
It's about the fourth time I've heard it. :-)

Don't underestimate how well a Gold Wing chucks around in the right hands too. The Harley has better clearances though.

Maybe I'll dip my toes in the water and ask Pete very nicely about a test ride.

Tyres for sure, never changed the bars though, originals were really comfy for me... I would buy another one if I could afford it.

I found they sat me back too far and gave me a sore tailbone. Flat bars made it more comfortable and improved the handling.

If you are looking for that bone shaking, heavy metal, industrial feeling, with a gearbox that has 'character' and such - then a pre 2000 model will suit you better. They do have a certain primal 'life was simpler then' appeal. They also present a better canvas on which to paint an ideal. Cheaper one at least.

The later models are efficient and well performed. Still not fast, but capable on the road (unless 141 roulette is the goal).

You hit the 'why I bought a Nightster' nail bang on the head there. You do understand, don't you? I just warmed to you a little bit. As a person, and stuff.

Yeah, that's the thing. I don't really see the rationale for paying an extra ten grand to have a HD badge on a Boulevard tank.

I felt VERY fortunate to be offered a ride on it. It was many years since I had ridden a garden variety Katana 1100... but the E27 was easily superior. Bugger me... one of only 20 made, and I was allowed to ride it. Loved it!

My brother-in-law still has one is his garage. Absolutely mint condition and only has about 20000 kms from new. It is hardly ever used as he has a GSX1400 as his main bike.
