BT101 at Monster Energy MX Nationals Conondale in Queensland today.

New Zealand’s Ben Townley dominated the opening Monster Energy MX Nationals qualifying session of the season, topping the premier MX1 times.

Townley was fastest by over two seconds for much of the session, before final lap flyers from fellow Kiwis Josh Coppins and Cody Cooper placed them inside the top three with a NZ lockout.

Townley’s quickest lap was a 2:17.962, with Coppins next best on 2:18.113 and Cooper third on 2:19.412. British champions Brad Anderson and Billy Mackenzie were next best, while top Aussie was Lawson Bopping in sixth. Defending champion Jay Marmont was seventh.

In the Lites, Townley’s Honda teammate Ford Dale was fastest, while the MXD Under 19s class saw Dylan Long at the front of the field.

We caught up with Townley in the Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing truck to get his take on the session.

    Smashed em bro!!
He's definitely on form, heard he is beating his all time lap records on his home track, quicker than 07 when he battled with RV.
And Coppins is looking good too.
    Good shit kiwi's!

    just got back from Aussie,

BT was in another level, leading everylap, i bet there are a few other boys in that class that want to buy Chad a beer,

Brad Anderson was the next best but what the team think is a bad fuel pump which caused a last race DNF hurt him ,

Josh was close to Brad, and is basically in the points lead as BT is set to leave,

Bad luck for the Phillips brothers from Rotorua, Johnnys bike blew up on the 1st lap of practice of the under 19's, and older brother Michael hurt his ankle early in the 1st Pro Open race
