    The yellow peril

There have been comments on KB previously about the LTSA taking such a jaundiced view of matters that they aspire to paint yellow lines down the middle of every last New Zealand road.

When I got home from work last night there was a brand new yellow line right outside my gate! The bastards have got me!

    The enemy is *that* close.

Dont think it'll ever happen on every, or even most roads. Fuck all accidents happen head on or because of dumb overtaking in the big picture.

Especially in the Waikato - and along SH1 north of Wellington before they installed the cheesecutters. I'd be amazed if head-on collisions were not one of the leading causes of accidents.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Well I've only lived in this street since 1961 but I don't ever remember a head-on. It is a suburban street ffs.

There have been a few single vehicle prangs where the enthusiasm of a young driver temporarily exceeded his ability. There was a railcar hits motor bike (sprained ankle!), and a train hits video rental van. (VHS tapes all over the where)

Once upon a long time ago, when I was a teenager myself, I was driving a friends V8 coupe in a race with another guy on a bike and I ran him off the road, through a hedge, and into the side of a house. (No injury except the bike, oh and the hedge...) But we won't dwell on that other than to say it's the only multiple vehicle incident that I can recall on this street in 45 years. It could be however that one accident 40 some years ago is the new criteria for an accident black spot?

The yellow line is there as a guide for you. If you are lost, ride around until you can find a yellow line, and then simply follow it to your house! The councils are so thoughtful these days...

For the benefit of those who arrived late, LTSA is now LTNZ (www.landtransport.govt.nz)

Screw the lines, I'll pass when I think its safe anyway...
Knowing my luck with extra yellow lines the plebs in cages will use it as an excuse to hit me...
