So I'll be the first to admit I totally forgot there were new rules. They just happen naturally. This is what happens when you learn to drive in other countries!

Though I was cautious on a left hand turn with a car waiting to turn right, since I forgot he had to give way to me. This was on the bike, so maybe its just being more aware that he might not have seen me.

I was making a left turn with right of way Friday last,

It couldn't wave back because it was on it's cell phone !!!!!

We must be in our own little state here on the kapiti coast because the old rules still seem to apply !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

I've only had one "moment". (In the car).

I went to turn right from a straight road into a terminating road (a "T"). Car coming the other way was turning left.

I started to go (forgetting) then slowed, then noticed they had a give way sign (yes!) then they (car full of teens) went, giving me a look of "dumb old man doesn't know the rules changed".

It's an odd give way sign, and I bet plenty don't notice it (or think it doesn't apply under the new rules).

This is the intersection in Porirua, between the McDonalds and Mobil.

I have seen more right turning vehicles just "gun it" to beat the left turning one.

The bigger problem here and that is people not knowing how to enter, exit, lane change or what lane they need to be in on a F*^%*&^ motorway.

Had one right turner forget to give way to me turning left last week. Some lady. The Stebel Nautilus saved the day though. I could see the "Oh shit! I hafta stop!" look on her face as she realised she'd goofed...

    Had an interesting one yesterday...
I had stopped (pillion needed to get phone out to make a txt), parallel to the curb, about 20 feet back from a side street on my left. There were 3 or 4 cars coming from behind me, and one sitting opposite waiting for them to pass so he could turn right. I have my left indicator on, brake light on and both feet on the ground - so it's obvious I'm not moving. Lead car of the ones coming from behind me jinks left in front of me to take the side street AND STOPS to give way to the guy facing. WTF. Mr Left Turner has right of way under the new rule, but even under the old rule he could still go as Mr Right Turner has to let the straight-through cars pass first. We both had a good laugh at Mr Left Turner as he finally went. At this point I'm ready to go, right indicator on, traffic from behind has cleared and my amused friend opposite me obviously knows the rule/s, as he gave me the nod and waited for me as he should.

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I've seen similar at the entrance to Supermarkets ... and get blocked by a car entering ahead of them (giving way to pedestrians .. as they should) ... and blocking the whole lane.

Also I have noticed more lines of traffic building up waiting for the car to turn right as there is a car parked opposite the intersection so on one can undertake.

After 12 years of frustration applying a rule that was terminally stupid, it was such a relief to turn normally.

Junctions I use are so much better - and just think, all you Kiwi drivers will be safe in other countries.

Now it's fine to use the correct lane at traffic lights when going straight on, without getting stuck behind someone giving way.

    Better late than never.

Today during my licence test, 80% of Masterton residents forgot the give way rule

Not that I was ever driving a cage without a licence mind you.

    Ahem.

On the day of the change, it seemed like other drivers were as scared to death of other drivers as I was.

Thanks to the new rules I can get to my work faster.

    No issue here.
