happy to pay beer/money etc if you have something i need.
A spare o ring chain you can have / 520 100 link. low km's one piece. I have no other spares that would apply to your bike.

There are a fair few folks around with 250 spares. I was just talking with a guy that buys them does them up and sells them. He's owned about 50 of them passing through. I tend to biff stuff that has no value, sell what does or give it away. I don't have the room to hold stuff. The shed is chocka already.

I need to decide if I'll keep the 250 or DR350 with the blown motor. (actually cooked for lack of oil) I have a spare 350 motor so that job should be easy.

So do you have a spare front wheel with disc.... Tim may want to talk with you.

Tim are you going for the full rebuild in mint condition or just get it running and road worthy?

If you're doing the full rebuild there's a section on this forum somewhere for that stuff.

    Can you deliver to Dunedin....

Tim would benefit from changing the front a little. Although it seems he has other stuff on his hands.

yeah the last DR250 I had was the disc front, haha, I actually remember hacking up car brake pads with a hacksaw, and drilling an extra hole in them so I didnt have to buy brake pads for it (hey, I was 14!)

Good to know what other bits are out there. Its a couple weeks before I can start to spend any coin, but at this point, the plan is to get some elcetrical components, and see if I can get it to run. At that point, I will strip it, repaint the frame, and generally tidy it up. Im not going for a showroom condition type rebuild, as economics dont allow that, plus, Im not a real patient person haha. Ill get it to run first, and then ask/search/nag for parts as funds become available

as for road legal, i dont know if its ever been on the road before or not, so I should run the VIN through Carjam and see if there is any history on it or not. I would possibly look into doing that, as if i decided to keep it, it would be handy to have a commuter/dirt toy and leave the big toy for the big rides and trackdays

I couldn't find a front sprocket guard for mine, the last on was fucked, so I made this one up today.Couldn't be arsed getting the spray gun out to paint it and all the paint brushes have been used in the parts cleaner, so I painted it with my finger. I really am a cheap cunt.

haha, Unstuck, I often go without a front sprocket cover on dirtbikes, I know I shouldnt, but fuckit.

OK, I actually did something with the old beasty today.
I whipped off the LHS engine cover (stator housing) and had a look. I think there is something missing, but Im not sure, and my camera isnt working atm so i cant post a pic, if someone has a photo of the DR engine with the LH cover and stator removed that would be quite handy, otherwise Ill try google images . . .
The oil that was in it was sludgy as fuck, there might be more work in this that i had thought, but hey, shit happens.
I also wrote down the frame and chassis numbers to do a search on them. I dont think its ever been on the road, it has the brackets to take headlight, but no switchblocks, and the entire electrical system consists of, well, fuckall, especially without the stator and assosciated wiring.

I believe that the G250 stator is a match, and I have found them brand new, and very cheap - its chinese, but its alot cheaper than buying a second hand one, and it means that I can use it to see if I can get spark without losing too much coin if this whole things turns out to be a lost cause.

Tomorrow if i get around to it, i will check the timing, and maybe pull the carb off ready to be cleaned out and given a good check over.

Havent done fuckall with this in a few days.
The electrical bits that Unstuck hooked me up with turned up today.
sadly, the stator doesnt mate into the engine casing, (it fits fine inside the magneto though) so i have to figure out
    A) can I modify the stator to fit into the engine casing so i can bolt the engine casing on and have it work
    or
    B) If I put the stator I have into the engine casing it came off (or one off the same model) will the whole casing and stator unit bolt directly on to the engine?

As far as I know thus far, the answer to B should be a YES, but I need to confirm, given recent events, I cant afford to waste money on things that dont eventuate! Im pretty sure the engine layout and casing didnt change fuckall, just minor internal differences.

I thought I should at least try and do something semi productive so i whipped the carb off, and gave the outside of it a quick clean. It could do with a bit more of a clean up, but that will have to wait untill I can figure out this electrical stuff first.
Heres some pics of the before and after of the carb.

    Hi Tigertim20

    Sorry to hijack your thread.

Given your recent experience with the DR250, how does this one look?

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=492194518

I know it's a bit newer than yours but every piece of advice/info I can get helps.

I've just bought my son a TTR125 and I want a simple 'bush basher' so I can go riding with him.

I was looking for a mid 90's XR250 but quite like the DR's as well.

I've owned 4 or 5 XR's and always had a good run with them.
I've also had 4 Suzuki's which have treated me well.

    Thanks for your help.

    Look for help!

I have a 1985 dr250s was rough but did the top end and cannot get the cam aligned. There seems to be no timing marks on it and the engine isn't pulling gas from the carb. Have cleaned the carb new boot engine side and was running but losing power. Adjusted timing chain and now won't even start.

Any idea how to get the timing corrected or if it may be valve causing part of this?
