    Why do we ride?

Last week I had to make a business trip from Wellington to Gisborne, somehow I managed to convince work to let me ride up rather than fly. Turns out that Tuesday and Wednesday last week were about as cold and wet as we have had lately...

The thing is that even though it was cold and wet all the way up and all the way back I still had a blast. I was totally at peace, all I had to think about were those thinks that immediatly pertained to the task at hand; hazards, the next corner, the current corner, fuel level...

Why do we ride? for me, it's because it makes me feel good.

Big ups to Motomart in Lower Hutt for the new Alpinestars jacket, was still dry on the inside after 8 hours of driving rain and Bisset Honda in Pahiatua for the Oxford Chillout jacket and gloves.

Damn straight. Rode to Auckland (from Wellington) for Tech Ed time before last. Took days of annual leave to do it (one day up, one day down), and got work to pay for the petrol as it was less than the airfare would have been anyway. It was like riding in a swimming pool the whole way, but loved it. It made an "adventure" out of what used to be hours of boredom in planes and taxis.

Now I'm self employed, and when I visit my clients in Rotorua and Napier, I ride when I can. It just makes the trip "worth while".

Hard to explain, but you either like riding or you don't.

I've done Auckland to palmerston north...would've been more fun if I didn't have a heavy backpack on, broke the trip up to two days as i got family in taupo, seat gets uncomfortable after a few hours, I should've had more breaks than I did, all in all I'd do it again, I mean i've already done it twice!

I ride primarily because, I own a bike.
That unequaled feeling of a night ride when its chilly/clear sky and a full moon.
The absolute sense of well being and gratitude, that I am able to obtain full enjoyment when out riding.

I ride because no other form of transport gives me the sense of freedom and enjoyment that riding does. I look for any excuse to ride, wet or dry.
