At about 10 past 5 one weekday I pull out of my drive way, drive about 20m (realise my head-light is off, so flick it on) then continue another 20m before turning right down a side road.

Three cars gave way to me (as they were turning left) and so here I am, well inside the speed limit, on a narrow as hell residential road, in peak traffic, with double yellow lines, heading towards a hill crest, with my view slightly obstructed by sunlight, followed by 3 cars, with head light on and happy. When I notice a pair of blue and reds in the distance behind us.

I go over the crest of the hill and I'm about 1/4 way down pulling over to the left when the cop starts tailing me hard (so I continue to the bottom of the step, narrow hill to a safe, flat, wide place to pull over).

The cop gets all bent out of shape from the start because I took a 150m to stop. I hand the bloke my lic., take off the helmet, get off the bike, tell him what he wants to hear - all at his request. Then he proceeds to dress me down for having no headlight on. Fair play it was off for 20m so I appologise and beg for mercy.

Then I got thinking about his safety message verse's his driving example. The cop had to close a massive distance to reach me when he did. Doing the calculus of where he was when I spotted him in relation to where he caught up to me puts him conservatively at about 40-50km/hr above the 50km limit.

Remember he had to also overtake the 3 cars, heading towards a hill crest, an view obstructed by sunlight, on a narrow as hell residential road, in peak traffic, with double yellow lines, with no ability to see on coming traffic... to deliver a head light safety message?? The guy was a major accident waiting to happen, he was just super lucky nothing came over that hill or a kid didn't run out.

    Hypocrite.

    I wish I could've ID'd him - I'd have made a complaint.

My first speeding ticket was on a A100. Second speeding ticket an NC21. I have been pulled over a total of 4 times, all for speeding. Was lucky enough to be "warned" twice.
I guess if you don't bring attention to yourself then you don't get noticed.

I get pulled over a few times a month for routine license checks at all hours of the day Been pulled over by the same cop 3 times once, you'd think he might recognise my beautiful physic and leathers after a while, no?

Can a 20 yr old not ride a litre bike these days without looking like he stole it or has no license.

I have been pulled over once, for speeding. They let me go with a warning because they were too busy to give me a ticket and I don΄t think they had any idea exactly how fast I was going...

    You're welcome.

It was a good wheelie too, and I was gobsmacked when I realized you'd done it one handed. Lots of respect for your skills, Kemo Sabe.

It's a quandary really. I see someone doing a wheelie, think "Way Cool then remember what I'm paid to do ,

I managed a smile when the grumpy boss I was with told me you had said the front wheel came up by accident. That was before the Tui ads, but was a good one anyway.

You've got to be fucking kidding me. You mean he looked at the "249cm3" stamped/cast into the actual block and told you it was "per cylinder"?

Since 1982 been pulled over only twice on my bike, once about 25 years ago when I had supposedly not stopped for someone at a pedestrian crossing. The popo must had good eyesight I certainly did see anyone one on or even near the crossing. The second time was in December last year for a random safety check to be told what to wear and how to make myself conspicious. My bike is well lit up (headlight plus additional LED running lights) and I wear a bright red jacket, was wearing all the safety gear etc. Not sure why he even bothered to stop me, didn't ask to see my licence or check my rego and wof. We chatted and I drove off sweating under the heat of the sun for an unnecessary stop to be told how to do what I was already doing. I don't mind being stopped if there is a point to it, but in this case I was left wondering....

Yeah, my 800 would suddenly be a 1600. Would I have to pay higher reg?

I don't see why it should. The name of the bike model is not used to consider the power to weight ratio or its cc rating. Having said that I've seen worse stuff ups...

There is some stuff in other threads about this, some KBers have had some input.

The NZTA already have it well fucked up apparently.

They were just going to use the Aussie List, then they discovered that the ozzies have 5 lists and they are all different.

Then they chose one of the ozzie lists and discovered that NZ has a far wider range of motorbikes than Oz as we allow parallel importing. So whats a Ninja 650 in Canada where mine came from might be called an ERF6F/N in New Zealand or even an EX650 or something else depending on what the parallel importer called it. So exactly what on the Oz LAMS list will they think it is over here, especially as the Ozzies have a ER6L LAMs version.

They restricted the size of bikes to 660 cc as "they didn't want people riding bikes that were too big or heavy for them." They were unable to explain why if the issue was size and weight, that they didn't make a rule around size and weight, cc's weigh nothing of course.

Now they have 4-5 months to get an "L" on all our rego labels.

I only licence once a year, so that should have been all finished 8 months ago, so for the first year or so there will be no L on the labels, if they ever get around to it at all.

And that begs the question, is the database even good enough to determine if a bike should have an L label. ? They think my K100 is 100cc. I bet the database is full of crap like that.

Still, overall I think LAMs is a step in the right direction, but in true NZ style, we have copied someone else badly, and we will cock it up.

Thanks for the compliment. And I know it sounds like a Tui ad, but it wasn't an intentional wheelie! Sure when it did come up I didn't slam the throttle shut, but if it had been intentional I would've carried it all the way up Durham lol.
