Everbody Dies But Not Everyone Lives
I ride most weekends at the moment - Usually wet, and a little fresh. But I don't care. Some of the best riding I did was 2 winters ago on my cruiser - Some wicked weekend roadtrips in some grizzly weather. Seems to put a real smile on my face sometime. I do miss having hotgrips though, that did always make it a little more cozy. I'm a soft girl, never going to harden up - too much of a blouse for that. But ride right through winter when time allows.
As mentioned before, my first winter and so far so good. Except for the days when it's really bad - thunderstorm and crazy winds - I've ridden almost everyday.
But a few things have helped me bear the chill:
1. A cheap beanie turned into neck warmer. Was very surprised that I didn't feel the wind on my neck at all when wearing it. Just snip the top off the beanie and pull it over your head to your neck - got one which happened to be fluro yellow too to match my hi-vis vest!
2. Poly-pro gloves under regular gloves also help although still cold when it's below 5 degrees.
3. Winter gloves - definitely a wise buy for those extra chilly mornings when the sun is not up yet.
4. Wet weather gear - one-piece or two-piece. Don't often need them but when needed, they really do the job of keeping me dry.

Your beliefs don't make you a better person, your behaviour does.
Put my bike away for winter? Heck no- I put winter away for my bike (me and the missus just moved from Dunedin to Auckland). It has rained here every day for the last week, though (cue weepy violin music)...
Was raining cats and dogs when I rode to work this morning... Literally... It was hard enough to see out my fogged up visor in the grey light with pouring rain, let alone spotting the damn brown/black dog that ran out in front of me!! It only caught my eye when it was about 2m in front of my front wheel. Luckily I swerved left and the dog didn't do anything crazy like jumping back that way too
Riding in heavy rain is so satisfying though... I prefer it much more than riding in a brief shower with all the diesel/oil sitting on the surface.
Its really sad to see how poverty is really hurting New Zealanders. So many can't afford a car and have to pretend that their "hard"![]()
If it rains on your parade, use the umbrella of eternal optimism
Mine has been put away for the winter in the first time in my riding history. Not by choice though, relationship breakup followed by me leaving the home means I've got the bike stored at a friends work. Can't even go out to visit her at nights now. Must. Get. It. Back. Going. Insane.
Im probably going to put my reg on hold soon, went for a ride on sunday and it was no fun sliding around in the grit.
I might as well spend winter stripping the bike down and getting running perfect for spring
