I confess to know everything there is to know about absolutely nothing at all!!!
“A bad tradesman blames his tools. A stupid one blames himself!!!!!!!!”
yea I love them but not the 1998 ones.. 1992-1997 the RRV model was the last decent one.. 98 onward with the 17" front rim and the revised styling they just don't do it for me.
I like to think my fireblade was the last of the best. after that they got fat/lost their good looks and got a bit shite.
chicks dig fire(blades)
as for riding them they are ok.. mines no where near what it was like out of the factory. you can do heaps to improve them and get good grunt out of them. I like mine. even factory ones are very nice to ride, nice bikes - still grunty even standard
obviously I love em lol..
plastic fabricator/welder here if you need a hand ! will work for beer/bourbon/booze
come ride the southern roads www.southernrider.co.nz
there are some very cheap R1s on trademe at the moment . . .
yea they look fatter and bigger tho which is what I meant. and physically the fairings and shape they are bigger.
get rid of the stock muffler and ur already lighter than the 98 anyway haha.. heaps to get rid of on the blade. mine should be a diet cola
My thoughts as not ever owning one are love too esp the orginal model
apprently thet better with 17 inch front wheel some people fit these to first model
They went to 17 inch later, there good video on utube where guy compares orginal
blade to latest one , he loved the engine on orginal 900cc version said had loads
Of charcter
I love my vfr 750 and did before i even rode one so thoughts are the same with cbr 900
I think if you got this feeling you want the bike at least ride one or just go for it
Mind you nothing wrong with r1 or gsx either all nice and light

here,s that review
character is what its all about..
I like the 16" front, it runs a big 130 wide front tyre and they feel great. I think people just wanted 17" for tyre choice mainly and that myth about the 16" being twitchy which I've never found a real problem. the new 1000cc bikes can be just as nervous my 2 cents anyways
Here's my opinion, buy it! Especially if you find a mint one.
Correction, 900RR 98-99 still has 16 inch front.
Feeling-wise it is very similar to the 96-97 version. The total revolution only started from 2000+ with 929, then 954, then 100rr.
I kept my '99 one for almost 7 years, doing 70k+ kilometres on it.
Couldn't fault it if you like cuddly old-timer superbike.
I had a VTR1000SP1, a Hayabusa, a CBR1000RR, and now on a Ducati, but I still miss my 99 Fireblade.
And yes I never had problem with the 16" front.
Get the '99 model blue/red/orange/black colour if you can. I think that's the prettiest of them all.

haha guess I could upload it.. doin a uni assignment at the moment. its shit quality like the still photo above eh.. just a drunken afternoon in the sun.
and true about the 98/99, I was fairly sure they changed to 17" as well as made styling revisions after my blade. learn somethin everyday - I'v got a tonne of magazines about all the blades some good readin' with the 98/99 next vers they went more aerodynamic and I think changed the frame and geometry too? anyway not to my taste. they just don't quite look right with the slight shape changes - I'v ridden one in the colors marmoot showed. tis a nice bike, one floats round in dunners. It did feel diff to mine IMO tho but could just be the individual bikes
92/93 blue n white ones are the ones I like best although I do prefer the foxeye headlamps 95+ I think.
I love my 98 RRW.. it's fast, it eats curves, is mint on the road and the track as well as trips over 1000kms and whilst it is a 98 model so doesn't have all the modern day electronics that boost owners egos rather than their skill bases, it is still an awesome ride.
I run Metzeler tyres and have no problems with them though I am looking at the 016s as my next full set replacement. any one who says buy an R1 or that sort of crap is a magazine reading anorak.. Nothing against the R1 at all. The 1998 RRW weighs less than the 1997 model, puts out stronger power and is more sorted chassis wise including the aforementioned geometry changes which kept steering speedy but aided stability.. some people (including the mag testers) seemed to think that meant it was a soft bike, no FireBlade is a soft bike.
buy the bike, you won't be disappointed nor will you feel ripped off in any department. mine is the candy orange blaze model and while I do like the blue/orange/black one I prefer the candy orange blaze model (there are some choice colour schemes available on the US CBR919 models)
buy an R1 indeed![]()
