How do you know what my face is even if I have a face? does my said "face" even have the ability to show expression? I put that to you good sir

I got onto my offramp and noticed a cop behind me so I stopped speeding (it was on an offramp and it was only a little) and adjusted riding style to be more.... acceptable. Ie I didnt burn off or make my usual sneaky moves*

once I got beyond the police car I started thinking about how to post this mildly interesting story and I realised something.

    I'm a dangerous rider.

If twice in 30mins I notice possible surveliance and change my riding then I'm obviously riding outside what I should be (according to the law)

Is this just me? do many people have a normal riding style and a 'legal' riding style when around police.

    *sneaky move =
4 lanes of traffic, far right (to turn right) is always backed up 10+ cars but the one next to it isnt so I burn up to the front then pull in front of the car at the front of the que.

ps. the chances that the blue and white helicopter was actually watching/fliming me are very unlikely im sure. but remember its not paranoia if they are actually after you
I have trouble with the BLACK HELICOPTERS too.

Generally, I don't have a panic attack when I see a cop, because I'm (generally) not misbehaving. The exception is when I'm doing summat marginal, like lane-splitting or undertaking, or if I've left my licence at home. Last week, I was on my way home, and I thought I'd left my licence at home (it was actually in my jacket pocket, but I didn't remember putting it there), so I was trying to be good. However, the traffic wasn't moving, and the bike was overheating, so I thought "Stuff this!" and wehn I got to Curran Street (on-ramp from Ponsonby), I put my left confirminator on and went down the left of the stopped/crawling traffic. Halfway down, there was a dodgy-looking Holden: wide steel wheels without hubcaps, extra aerials, and (as I got closer) extra lights on the parcel shelf. Hmmmm... dilemma... do I carry on, or pull back in...
So, I carried on, and hoped he didn't note my number plate, or thought I was turning left (hence the indicator), and thought up some excuses for my behaviour.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

    Hmm,

I'm from the UK, emmigrating to NZ on Wednesday, I've got a full license, and looking to get something like a GSXR as soon as possible.

We're legally allowed to 'filter' here, which I assume is the same as what you call 'lane splitting' ie. going between, or outside of cars crawling or stopped in traffic. Am I right after reading some of these boards that it's illegal in NZ?

You'll have to check the other threads, but from a legal point of view, no, it's not allowed, unless you pass other vehicles to the right, don't stray into the next lane over, and indicate your passing manoeuvre. But the police will generally turn a blind eye to it, if the traffic's not moving, or moving very slowly, and you're not filtering at a stupid speed.

If I see the Pohleese, I usually just check the speed/give the brakes a squeeze if I'm being a little "illegal". Otherwise it's business as usual. I've filtered past a coupla three cops lately with no reaction. Perhaps they don't get too worried when you seem to know what the law is.
    Indicating helps too.

Well it is kind of illegal, but if you do it in a safe manner without putting other road users at risk and keep it under the speed limit, while looking confident and in full control - smooth riding, you will be fine.

Re filtering - my understanding is that it is legal only when you pass on the right and the traffic is actually stationary. Technically you are the motorist & they are 'parked'. In practice, it is tolerated when done in a fashion such as above.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

When they're stopped you can pass on any side. Get a trials bike and go over.
