Have had the vfr resting on the limiter in top gear. I think it limits at 180kph.

    Good fun.

Had plenty of moments where my speed (indicated or true) has been in the top brackets in the poll in previous years. In the last 2-3 years however, anything in excess of 150kph would be rare, and mostly related to overtaking. Also done 100-150kph on gravel (sometimes sideways).

It took some effort to re-adjust to normal speeds again, but I'm happier for it (and my licence is in far less jeopardy).

180kph on my Dads 84 Katana 750 when we swapped bikes for a bit once.

What I assume to be just over the 160kph mark on my own bike, speedo cable had worn to bits prior so I had no reading, but it was flat out in sixth, and about three times longer than any straight I had been down before where I usually get to 160 before backing down.

In a car I've been 190 with a VERY VERY long run up.

Not something I like making a common habit out of..

220km somewhere on the Hauraki plains.
Wanted to find how fast my GS850 would go in a straight/flat line but I never got there because while it as still making power at 220,I'd lost interest for my own reasons by then

You old buggers ! When H2s came out in 72 a few of us decided it was a good idea one day to do those speeds on gravel(100mph), TT100s and all ! What were we thinking ? lol.

Had a 300zx that would comfortably sit on 240-250.
Wouldnt have reached that on a bike. Top speed is fun and all, but any quiet roads im on are never that straight.

....my son dropped off his liter machine for me to play on one weekend a while back, while he was doing some work on my bike...first 10 minutes of 180+ on my regular circuit was enthralling, then my usual destination/turn around spot hove into sight...had to go further which put me out on the plains...a couple of blips up to 220+ and then I realised that my whole ride was in excess of the 'keeping my licence', rules... the speed was exhilirating, but the ride was boring....about an hour and a half later I was back home from a ride that would take me half a day...I put his bike in the shed and couldn't wait to get my sportster back...no wonder some younger inexperienced riders talk so much shit, the speeds they can attain have addled their thought processes and I'm sure they rate their experience on how fast they think they can ride...it's much more fun going faster on a bucket than the tyres and chassis can handle...

You Sir are a riding God, in posession of a 2 wheeled hell beast. Begone to a bucket track and claim all the titles that are rightly yours.

Oh, and around 250 in a cage (351 powered Cortina)

    i should have made "i'm insane" a seperate option/tickbox....
+ respect. i'd hardly nudge that in a car.. 140 is about my top on gravel (~70 on long straights on a bike)

mwaha! i have a '78 280zx and that one up to ~210 (indicated)
had an evo think he was going to play, picked him up at 150, his car was skipping all over the place at 180, he gave up before 190...i rolled on through 200... 9" + tyres on all corners helps.

i'm not entirely sure what my point in this thread was. a matter of interest.
it's interesting too, to note how many people have travelled at speeds that are "illegal" and yet so many jump to "the law" if/when i suggest something else illegal.
personally, with only a bit of foam and plastic between my head and tarmac, going that quick (220+) on a bike is just...irrational.
practice makes perfect though, and respect for anyone who can/does/did.

but surely there is an argument for raising the speed limit, if we respectable bikers can pilot a vehicle at those speeds safely...
(or remove speed limit for motorcycles)

    muh.
    poll continues..

There are too many idiots in all manner of vehicles that are incapable of driving vehicles that are well capable of travelling at higher speeds. Untill such idiots are removed from the gene pool ... I doubt any increase will happen soon.
