So how far could you ride on the Buell before you had to get off to look for gonads? Timewise I mean. And was it comfortable?

Id go the Buell. Something a bit different. The 999 is looking really dated. Id have the 916 or the Panigale. Prob would have a Panigale now if they were available

You know my 'tude to 150hp bikes. An exercise in self-control.
40 is more fun on the road.
It's pretty comfortable for a sports bike. But it is a sports bike.

I've done 1000k in 12 hrs on mine.

Admittedly it's a CR, but only the hand position is different. The R is essentially the same ergonomics as an XB12R, and I've spent plenty of hours touring one of those and while it's definitely a sports bike it's nowhere near as extreme as the Duc.

It has to be said: if you are even remotely considering an 1125 over a 999 then you and the Buell are perfect for each other. The Duc is a bargain, with spares a plenty, while the Buell is probably the most disappointing and least characterful of the Buell range. I'd go an XB12R over an 1125R/CR in heartbeat.

With all the great bikes out there, in a buyers market, there are a plethora of better options than the 1125. Unless you just want something different, in which case see the opening sentence.

The difference being more or less the engine.

I sorta get that. When I've finished pretending I can use this one I might well make a custom XB12.

Not sure most would agree with you, though, when it comes to what most believe they want in a V twin sports engine that 1125 mill is a genuine contender for best in class.

I'd take an XB12 too, then I'd make it quiet. I hate the 45deg twin noise The XB may not have had straight line grunt, but they are super cool bikes

Mine had the factory race kit, sounded just fine.

I've put a few miles on both, now, the XB12R was quicker through and out of the corners. That may be just me, but I had more confidence on the edge of traction than I do on the CR.

I miss the lack of slipper clutch, too, I found the engine braking useful. Whatever, I doubt I'll ever have the spare time to make a "best of breed", but it'd sure be fun.

It's a personal thing, I have a passionate hate for any level of 45deg twin noise
I'm not exactly a corner slut, I wouldn't be any slower on a heavier bike, or lighter bike.
I also care not for magazine articles I like the XB series, mainly 'cos they look good.

Price?Buy an old GSXR and if indeed you have some ability you will make the guy that bought the Ducati or the Buell very disappointed indeed.
