What if you have talent and make the 999 or 1125 perform better? (private road/race track)
Or tart up an old heap

I'd have the 999 as a lounge ornament. Got the book, got the diecasts, just cant afford the full size model. There, that'll help your picking

Hang on! I thought this thread originated by saying ‘no haters’ ???

Once again Buell gets bashed...yawn...so boring...so predictable...

Hey Ocean, I agree with you mate! Actually I’m curious how many of the people who diss Buells have ever REALLY put one through its paces???
Yes they may be oddball in the looks dept but they have an x-factor that does it for me. If I had judged my beloved X1 by her looks then I would have missed out on the love affair of a lifetime. 150,000kms and still going strong.

Yes I know that isn’t the model being discussed but my point is “don’t judge a book by its cover’.

As for the 1125, well when i went to demo it I told the salesman about a review I had read on KB that totally bashed it. he said “oh yeah, i know who that is, he came in here thinking he knew it all and proceeded to fuck with the suspension to set it up to suit himself. What a joke, just because the suspension is easily adjusted doesn’t mean it needs to be but even though he hadn’t even ridden it yet he was certain he knew what he was doing. gee, he had a shit ride...well surprise surprise”.

    Anyway I loved the 1125CR I demo-ed sooooooo much I bought it.

SO, because I actually have REAL daily riding experience on an 1125CR I am voting for the Buell.
Its not because I am biased but because I can speak from experience.
I know what all-out-blissful-sex it is to ride.

My opnion was the 1125 is hideous, and I like the 999. Other than that, horses for courses.
I've ridden an XB12R asnd XB9, the 12R was underpowered and the 9 was just...I don't talk about it.
However, I would own an XB12R, I say it's slow (it really isn;t fast in a straight line) and I say it sounds hilariously shit, but it's cool and different.
Mind you, a 999 is different too.

Horse for courses, curries for people and all that crap.

NO I haven't ridden or owned a 999 which is why I am making no comment about the Ducati.

so I am not gonna make any disparaging remarks about it.

Can the all the Buell bashers say that?

What I can honestly say is that a friend of mine owns one and I would like to be able to say that he rides it but sadly it spends most of its time in the shop with maintenance issues.

Strangely, (or not!) the parts on the CR that are causing headaches are DUCATI parts...

I am NOT dissing the 999 tho, hey I like its looks! But since I haven't ridden it I can only comment on the bike that I AM VERY familiar with.
    Thats fair isn't it?

Then you and I are in no better position than each other
I couldn't own the Buell 1125, mental motor yes, but the looks are not my taste and for me that means a lot (That's why I like the XB12R, looks grouse)
Can I have a go on yours please?

Actually I am very happy with everyones comments Pos and Neg. That is what I was after, it is healthy to be able to say "no, that 1125 is an ugly POS" without actually being nasty about it or slagging other posters who happen to think it looks great! [Me!]
Upshot is that I will be test riding both and very looking forward to it! Thanks everyone! SL8R!

I've got nothing against Buell's, and the XB12R is something I'd happily have in my shed. My problem is with the 1125. For a brand that prided itself on forging a different path they managed to create an SV1000 from in the most convoluted manner possible. Many folks craved a more.....er......modern.....motor to complement the sweet chassis of XB12's etc. News came of the Rotax donk and we were led to believe we'd finally have something to really run with the open class big kids.

Instead it was nowhere close, and more of a VTR/SV type jack of all trades master of none type bike. Nothing wrong with that but the disappointment was palpable, in my household anyway. Worse, if I wanted to do a track day how do I adjust the gearing? No simple sprocket change that pretty much every big bore bike needs to exploit it's potential, either on track or road.

Ultimately, the 999 knows exactly what it is and does it very well. The 1125 seems kinda in limbo, not quite sure where it's s'posed to fit in. From that perspective I reckon the 1125CR makes more sense than the fully faired 1125R....and it looks a lot better!

See that's why personal taste is everything. To me...the 999 is one of THE ugliest motorcycles ever built.

    True,

But at the end of the day you've still only got a very pricey OLD GSXR,
The 999 is not a bad old hector. IMO
