I know one guy down here with an orange XR, he doesn't get out on rides too often I believe.. Three of us, MT, XR, Thunderbird have been out riding and I know do head up your direction sometimes.
I will always admit the XR1200 is the one HD I would have seriously looked at owning, they are a gem IMO.

Quite likely. To be fair, the XR is (apart from the V rod) the quickest HD. But we are talking big inch V twins, so does anyone REALLY give a rats arse which is faster?

Suzuki owners seem to. It's a topic of conversation at the Boulevard rallies.
The HOG has 45 more ponies and better lean angles than a M50.
It's probably quicker than a M90 too - but I rode them too far apart to be 100%.

Who's Suzy? Is she an easy ride? How much do you pay?

I'm comfortable with my M50. Maybe I'll go bigger one day, but I haven't seen anything else I want yet.

I believe I had the first one in NZ(besides the Dealer Demo) when they were first imported.

I loved it.....my favorite Harley by FAR for my typical day to day riding.

    UPSIDE:

    Great value for dollar
    Decent power
    Great torque
    Comfortable riding position
    Good handling/brakes
    Quite stable
If you're a decent rider you can still hang with your mates on faster bikes
Good gearing for real world use

    DOWNSIDE:

A bit heavy....it could go on a diet......like cutting off those horrible and heavy stock pipes for a start.
When riding you don't notice the weight much once moving.....but under very heavy braking it starts feeling a "bit" chunky again.
Short legs......150km of riding reasonably aggressively and you NEED to tank up.
If you're looking for a highway cruiser....this isn't you.....comfortable commuter riding position, but NOT touring....thin seat....and not geared well for constant high speed.

The only reason why I sold mine is because I've got young kids...and I couldn't help riding like a frickin' hoon......I'll have one again someday.

Just my opinion, and I'm biased.

I have ridden with a local who has an XR over the rapa' & taka's... weight wise? Just about the same, MT may outpork the XR by a bit. performance? Motor wise a few more ponies but less torque than the MT, - XR= higher rev ceiling and revs 'quicker'.....So they are fairly well' balanced' when paired up. MT has better brakes (09 onwards) and handling? I cant give a really accurate account as my MT has ohlins rear and 'tuned' front suspension... But I'd estimate they are pretty close in standard trim from when I followed an MT and XR over the Lindis. I've seen a few 'ride reports' from other MT owners, straight line performance? I guess the 109 has a little advantage, but hit the twisties and it seems an MT/XR will own an M109's arse.
So once again it shows outright performance figures mean farkall in real world riding situations, stick to 90-140kph and an MT or XR are an absolute blast to ride, (hit the taka's select 4th, and only change to 3rd on the very tight corners)...without having the full, balls out acceleration, of a 4cyl sprotbike.

Will mine has ohlins on the rear, and has the xr1200x big piston forks and lower niterod special h/bars and my own garage built 2-1 which got rid of a chunk of weight and I have also fitted a 30t front pulley to raise the gearing but will soon go to the buell primary sprocket + chain as this raise's the gearing and makes the speedo correct. And what are you talking about its a great bike for touring I have twice ridden to invercargill and have ridden back from there non stop to picton, fuel can be a problem if you give it death but I have never run out.

Cruiser riders talking about which bike is faster?i think they've missed the point.
