    Meh.

Top speeds and track times relative to actually riding the bikes on the road have become irrelevant unless you are purchasing the bike as a track only steed. Oddly enought I suspect the greater percentage end up on the road wearing sport touring tyres ......

Its really nice for the road. I owned a 08cbr1k before, and it was awesome, but this new Zx-10R is even better. Im surprised they dont mention the relatively weak steering damper, and soft rear shock.
Mid range is fixed with a -1 front sprocket for $35. You can go even further and order a 1/5 throttle insert for $25USD and that will create enough pick up for just about anything really.

Yeah seeing as there would only be a handful of riders in NZ who could fully exploit the limits of these bikes it's pretty irrelevant. Still good for pissing matches at the pub though.

It speaks about chassis ability and bike potential. Ride-ability is also an important component of any fast lap. Im just laughing at how much slower the Duc is when its 3 times more expensive. And how come new bmw couldn't beat the ZX? Oh well Im bias.

Unless you're racing most of that means fuck all. And on top of that it then depends on what publication you're reading. Latest FB magazine rates the BMW over the ZX.

My bike is 10yrs old, yes I've had the chassis set up and engine tuned, but that's not to make it quicker than any other bike, it's solely for 'playing around' factor. On the road who's quicker is the one willing to take the biggest risks, either to your wallet and license or your own and other road users safety. On the track, well sure then you can start splitting hairs.

I agree, for the road its more of an ego thing. But its only normal when ur bike is all new and shiny youd d want it to do will in comparisons like these.

As much as I hate to say it, if you read the article the highest speed recorded in the test goes to the gsxr, so not really fastest overall
    for the zx10 tho.

Hmmmm, if you're gonna post about a bike test it's probably a good idea to have a read of it...

What a shocker of a test. Some bikes had full systems, Power Commander and Q/S fitted while others were absolutely bog stock. Laugh all ya like at the Duc but fitting a full exhaust and not being able to tune for it is just bollocks, the poor thing was probably slower than stock. The BMW and MV were straight off the showroom floor with not a single mod whereas your Kwaka had a slip on (probably removing the cat), PCV and Q/S installed. So lob 7-8kg's back on the ZX10, subtract 7 or 8hp and how would things look?

I used to follow their tests, but I'm sadly disappointed in the process they've followed here. If that's how they set up the bikes prior, I'm not suprised they couldn't find a good set up on the Duc.

Fireblade always comes out either on top or in the top 3 in these tests.

These days it may also be true of track riding/racing, theone who is the bravest and doesn't crash wins. Times between the top few are always extremely close and different ridiers win on different days or even in teh next race.

I agree, it was hardly even out there.

Yup, funny that, it is always consistently one of the best road/track bikes each year. Not taking anything away from the ZX10; Kawasaki have done real good with this model and it does deserve the accolades it's been getting around the world. It's just that as has been pointed out, modern bikes are now so good they are better than the majority of their riders.
