Supporting panniers on an R6?

Hey folks.

Am just wondering if anyone has some good suggestions in suppourting panniers on an R6 (08) for some touring? Even if there are any L-brackets that fit, perhaps universals ones. I have tried to track some down on my own with no luck.

Not a fan of a top tail bag, like the luggage weight down low. Did a trip last year on it down the south island, then this year to Auckland. The panniers were supported best I could by the rear foot pegs, but loaded with a little luggage and they began wearing on the tail fearings pretty badly. Worried the fearings may crack if I keep doing this. Going down the whole south island on it in Novemeber and keen to get it sorted for future touring.

soft pannier bags under the pillion seat work great, i had to get an integrated tail light/indicator to get the stalk indicators out of the way though.

this was on an 04 r6 too btw....my 08 r6 doesn't have a pillion seat

get someone to bend a piece of plastic to go over the seat and cover the sides of the tail, i made one for my hornet and it stopped all the rubbing fits the soft panniers real well and no modds to the bike whatsoever

Venture Shield for sure... I have an otherwise mint set of SV1000 tail fairings here whose only fault is 1000kms of soft luggage raping the paint.

Hell yeah, they look the biz...very smart on a sports bike also...
If the pack rack system aint ya thing, then something like that would be my next choice.

cheers folks for your ideas, much appreciated. Do like the look of those ocean1. Will have another look and see if them may help take the weight off the fearings.

Going to be doing a lot of travelling over summer so really keep to get the bike better set up for it.

ask Hayd3n to put up some photos of his setup, it was simple, very cheap, and effective. works really well. If I was going to put panniers on the R1, I would copy what he has done.

Damn, that's cheap. It's not bad stuff either.

I'm almost tempted to buy it based on the price alone, and I don't need it.

So do I. They seem to be reasonably good quality. I haven't used them a whole lot but they certainly haven't fallen apart.

Have you tried riding a bike with a loaded pack rack? Having the weight low seems like a good idea but I find that a loaded pack rack isn't something I'm aware of at all for the vast majority of my riding. It's only at parking speeds or sliding on gravel that the extra weight makes a difference, and it still would then with panniers anyway.

The advantage of a pack rack is that once you've packed the bag, loading and unloading the bike takes hardly any longer than putting on a helmet. I bought something very similar to this from TSS a few years ago for about $140. Getting the rack fitted is a bit pricier though.
