    Angry Smashed bike while parked

Just returned to my bike to find it smashed up in a motorbike parking bay on the corner of Wakefield and Tory street in Wellington. All down the right hand side it has been gauged and scratched including the front right indicator destroyed. By the looks it has been done by another Motorbike! (And a white one at that since white paint is left on my once perfect black fairings, obviously someone has attempted to back into the most likely packed parking space and smashed right into my bike and at some decent speed since they didn't just stop at hitting the wing mirror they went down the full length of the bike from front to back (even the tail pipe has white paint on it).

Insurance has a huge excess and it will be "hopefully" cheaper to purchase after market parts and quick paint job on a few areas.

Still I find it disturbing how a fellow motorcyclist can do this and just "hit and run", I would 1000 percent leave a note/card etc if I was dumb enough to do this to someone's ride! Also who ever did it cleaned up after - picked up the loose plastic and placed it in the bin (I was away from my bike for about 4hours).

Please will someone give me advice as to where I can purchase indicators for a Hyosung GT250R 2010, I don't mind an aftermarket that fits or that I need to DIY (all 4 don't need to match just aslong as it functions - street legal and all). Also a place that can do paint job touch ups for motorbikes?

Has this "Hit and run" damage happened to anyone else?

Bummer dude, is there no cctv operating in the area? If not and there are no witnesses, there is probably not alot you can do. There are a lot of fucked up people about for sure, but try not to let it stress you too much. It,s not what happens to you in life that is important, but how you deal with it. Good luck.

Is there a possibility that wind could have blown it over? I heard stories of Wellington City bike parks where bikes get blown over all the time due to strong winds. Someone might have actually picked it up for you, thus doing you a favour.

    Just sayin'.....

Was it parked at the end of the row by any chance?

It does sound like more damage than another bike would do. Don't recall it being particularly windy yesterday.

I've had something similar happen to me however the lady was nice enough to leave her details, that and she actually saw me walking up to my bike so she stopped in her car and had a lil chat with me. Thing is the place I got it fixed at couldn't give a shit about it and didn't wanna make it like new again. So it still looks like shit.
Doubt it was another biker, one doesn't exactly come flying into a motorcycle park at 100kms and pull a stoppie and finish up in place do they, they carefully back their ride in make sure it's all straight etc lol

Probably a courier, in a rush. Hope you get it all sorted bro, let us know how you get on

They don't have faired in indicators do they? If not, just buy a cheap set of aftermarket ones off TradeMe or eBay.

Ask to see if there's any CCTV footage or anything of the sort near where it happened too

Mate, it is truly gutting to find your bike wrecked I know..... Have a cry if need be (I admit, I do.... to myself), but stuff happens.

Now for the good news. There are quite a few GT250R's that have been turned into race bikes. So the "road kit" should be in plentiful supply..... No real need to ask the dealer to get some new bits in really.

It will all be okay in the end.

Thanks guys, it was definitely another motorbike, as damage was done on the right hand side which is facing into the motorcycle bay, only cars could park on the left - I'm guessing the motorbike reversing had to do it in a hurry due to oncoming traffic, my bike was middle left of a bay (Normal car park size for motorbikes) that can hold about 6-8 bikes and the scrapings along its sides show coming in from the road into the park so not from falling damage.

I'm guessing its safer to park near the back of a motorbike bay since you get less traffic in and out around your bike...will attempt to do that from now on. Was just looking at prices and total cost is about $500 to repair which is pretty close to the excess on the insurance.

I'm guessing I just ask local businesses to see their CCTV footage? I'm not sure if the police would give me any of their time but yeah it would definitely be interesting to see what actually happened and how the dude reacted after. Faired in indicators so they don't catch the back end of a motorbike sounds good - will check them out.

Thanks mate, will be keen for a replacement indicator/right wing mirror if anyone reading this has done as quickbuck mentioned. (Also I will try to find those that have done the above) Nice1

So, you saying that the bike was nose to the kerb? Or are my pills not letting me understand?

Always park rear wheel to the kerb. this way the side stand won't fold up with a slight knock on a cambered road.

Rare wheel facing the kerb, it was in a motorbike bay that was essentially a \__\ type of park that usually only holds a single car on a one way street, \i__\ if that i represents my bike then the dot of the i is the front of the bike and it was in line with the angle of the parking bay. Also I lock in the gear in so the bike won't move forward
