    On Strike

Apparently, I'm on strike for the next three hours. Well, kind of, a two hour stop work meeting followed by a one hour strike. Does this mean I can spend the entire three hours on KB or should I accompany my fellow strikers at the stop work meeting and the picketing later on outside the University?

A one hour strike ? That's hardly going to bring the capitalist imperialist running dogs to their knees is it ?

Demonstrate the solidarity of the oppressed proletariat. Browse KB. We're oppressed anyway, and I'm a prole.

Can I sign you up for the revolution ? While cowards flinch, and traitors sneer, we'll keep the red flag flying here.

We always went to the pub when we were on strike....ah,those were the days, when Unions had the power to control the country...real working men in charge, not politians.

Well little girl unless you are hungover or sick, I suggest you go visit your kiddos teacher for an important chat about your childs future.

You know the one - the teacher who lives in Hellensville...... or was it down 22....or the local who lives on 5678 Scenic Drive. ...(hehehe I said scenic drive )

Well, a two hour stop work meeting resulted in cancellation of the strike. So, guess it's back to work for me...

Having said that, the argument is for a 5% pay rise and the formation of a MECA so that all University staff can bargain collectively nationally. I support this, however today's meeting resolved to postpone things until August 19th as apparently our Vice Chancellor has said nice things to the unioin lately.

Still, might have to do a go slow for the next hour just to support the other Universities who are still going on strike .

Just a curiosity but where do you supose they are going to get the money to give you that 5% pay raise? They certainly arn't going to lower thier own pay.

They will of course put up student fees to pay my salary increase.

And suddenly the students protest refusing to pay the fee hike, the univeristy has to make cut backs in staff, and you're out of a job anyway.

You got it! It's all a big balancing act. If the university can't pay their staff appropriately, the staff will go elsewhere, quality of teaching drops, students leave, University has no money and so on...
