I'd be more inclined to consider this one.

If it's sold by a dealer it has to be covered. The disputes tribunal will decide how much cover is acceptable.

Dealers can not contract out of the CGA, been down this path before. The only way to do this is by a tender process or auction.

Where were you when I just sold my GSX550EF for $808.00

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-484008266.htm

I think over $1200 for gsx550-750 is getting high on price.

Or you could do what I did and pay $101.00 and spend $350 more to have one road legal with new warrent.

    Oh cool, the [ex-]owner himself!

Well, main concerns are availability of parts if any unlikely breakdown. Any problems with engine/mechanicals? Any new parts or fairly new parts? e.g. steering bearings, sprockets/chain?

The suspension seems unique. Would it be difficult to source replacements if any part of it breaks down? In event parts are not possible, could standard shocks be put in instead?

How's the fuel economy? It's an air-cooled engine, correct?

I remember that... Yeah well, I didn't have need to look for a bike then, until now when my XJ400's been written off.

Heck yeah! That's a fine looking one! I especially like the colour!

The Hamilton Honda one does have a pack rack though... Will it be difficult to find a pack rack that'll fit? Will Ventura even have any for this age bike? No biggie but I really need a top box...

I answer to the above questions.
    Yes they wheelie good.
    They can do good stoppies.
    5 gears
You can get both knees down but only on opposing corners unless you push the useless suspension past its max and then you can get your whole body and head down.

Virtually bullet proof motors except mine decided it needed to throw its timing chain for no apparent reason.
Still have it awaiting me getting unwiser and nostalgic and resurecting it in my declining senile years.
There is no comparison between the old school bikes and the new ones in handling and performance except they both produce smiles when pushed close to their individual limit.

I am very interested in this one as well:

But again the same question apply - Availability of parts, especially since it's pretty one-of-a-kind from Yamaha.

The link is to a classified ad. The vehicle isn't actually purchased via trademe, you contact the dealer. Hence the CGA still applies. Interestingly enough, as more and more new items are now being sold by trademe the Commerce Commission is tightening laws up around online auction sales. Doesn't matter in this instance anyway.

In this instance ... that is correct. However I have seen auctions on Trademe, of bikes put up obviously by a dealer. On bikes that have sustained damage ... or if it's condition is doubtful. The "As is" condition is usually stated in those times.

That was not stated in this particular sale ... and one might assume it was fit for the purpose ... and as (obviously) a dealer ... standing behind their products on sale.

The FZX is a Jap import model and a lot of parts would have to come from Japan.

The GSX that you linked to in the first post is also a Jap domestic market one and would have a slightly de-tuned motor.

Can't tell whether the blue GSX I linked to is NZ new or an import though.

If it's NZ new it should have a 240kph speedo as opposed to the 180kph ones on the import model.
