    Cheap anti theft solution

hi guys. i have lost recently two bikes , was too tired and did not hear what was going on on my backyard...
just bought couple of those.....long arm padlocks with 105 db alarm.............10 bucks only............comes with 2 sets of batts.

it is not an advertizement , just dont want any of you to loose your bikes...

Let us know how you get on with it.

I've been put off buying alarmed locks by reports of endless false alarms even from much more expensive locks. For 10 bucks I doubt those ones would hold up to much bolt cutter action but if the alarm is the right sensitivity then you haven't got anything to lose by using it. The same seller also has cable locks with alarms.

I just want something for the odd time i ride my bike to work. The ktm has no keys you just hope on and push the start button and your off so anything is beter than nothing. Although most of the time i put it in the work shop but this cant always be done. There is enough people around that if it was making a loud noise someone would see hear it??

I'm pretty sure there is a link to a you tube video on here somewhere showing someone removing them in sub 30s using bolt cutters.

Some brands they cut off in 5s ...

If you really want security, then you need multiple layers, including a hidden one. A single layer of security is almost always defeatable.

Two layers of locks, motion sensing IR-lit cameras, security lighting, and a separate silent alarm then chirps very quietly by your bedside. Unlikely they will defeat all that in one go.. More likely they will get a visit from your pet bat whilst trying.

Reminds me of the AA insurance advert. Sounds like too much security for me.

Unless you live up a flight of stairs it'd be easier to just park the bike next to your bed.

Mines bolted to the ground. If they can find the grinder, Extension lead, cutting disks and power point plus cut it free with out rooting the rear hub, swing arm and caliper then they deserve to have it! At least they worked for it unlike the welfare bludges.

Its also insured for a tidy sum so id end up better off.

Chain it to something, If you have 2 people you can easily lift the bike onto a ute or trailer and leave within 30 seconds if you only have wheel locks on.

Chain mine to the house. Also have scary dog. I'll probably come home one day and find a half-eaten bike thief in the driveway.

You just put the cameras up and forget them, nail the "fuck off" and "dog will bite" signs to the building and leave them to do their work, turn security lights onto automatic, and add both a chain and a wire rope lock. How is that "too much" security? Any less will do nothing at all, which is clearly "too little" security.
