Surely this is a piss take

An insurance company write off of a near new VFR 1200 because the owner was too lazy to clean his bike so put in an insurance claim instead. FFS

Doesn't sound right to me. Fuck I could put a claim in every other week for stuff like this on my bikes and cars. I'm gonna have to look into it.
Actually if cars were covered for stone chips then they wouldn't need to specifically include windscreen cover as 99% of windscreen damage is a stone chip.
    Seems very fishy IMO.

Also if you consider that the seller has stated
" I will try to get a better picture for you but when photographing the bike outside I could not actually find any noticeable tar spots / stone damage. I will have a more detailed look at the bike and attempt to get a better picture or two."
    it just doesn't add up.

And tends to suggest less than full disclosure by the seller.

I note this company are selling their company car and the likes, they had an XR6 which was the managers and they they sold it. Its possible this was one of their staffs bike who works at the company(?) Have them on my watch list as they have some good stuff sometimes.

Could it also be a repo'd bike?

If it's an insurance write-off ... the owner at the time of the "accident" is NOT the seller. It would have been handed on to the insurance company for repair. If repairs exceed a certain % of the vehicles insured value ... it is written off. Often the case in large amount to plastics/fairing damage. No damage to chassis or engine. With minor damage to bolt on bits ...

I suspect this was the case here. I doubt if the original owner could have guessed the outcome of his "claim" ... once the claim was made ... it was totally in the hands of, and the decision of the assessor as to repair ... OR NOT.

The bike would have be sold by tender ... and the Trademe sale is the result of that sale.

I was thinking it could be DMNTD. Y'unno, when he was going through a new bike every few weeks it seemed easier to buy a new one instead of cleaning them!

Stolen and recovered after payed out I could understand.
I dont like that insurance money we pay as premiums gets wasted so often. i havee seen bikes auctioned as write offs from open day crashes on tracks also. I dont see why anyone that takes a bike on a track should be covered.
I have evolved as a KB member. Now nothing I say should be taken seriously.
