Well I'm all cheered up, it's not just me!

I've got increasingly vague and forgetful over the years even though I'm only36. I put it down to having quite a spectacular medical history and all the drugs it has entailed.

But I was told by Someone Who Knows These Things that Alzheimers is not forgetting where the keys are, but forgetting what a key is for.

So hooray for me - my brain is not rotting from the inside out after all . . .

I have really annoying memory blanks, such as putting wallet and house keys in my pillion bag on the bike, then spending TWENTY MINUTES looking for said wallet and keys. Bloody frustrating when you're in a hurry, and mildly unsettling when you have absolutely no memory of putting them there.

You've lost your keys... I've lost an entire bike!

It happened a long time ago, but I still cringe at my own stupidity when I remember the event. I had an XR500R at the time (Pro-link version) which was about the most spartan bike I'd owned. It didn't need a key, I just had to overcome the knee-shattering compression to start it, and shut it off on the kill switch. One sunny Saturday afternoon I managed to disprove the notion that those engines were bulletproof. Falling off a cliff into a stream might've had somehing to do with the disproving part. However, my best mate very kindly lent me his CB750F because I was meeting my new girlfriend at one of Jo'burg's nightclubs.

Usual thing, danced the night away, got pissed off my nut and told to go home by the bouncers because closing time had arrived. Staggered out to where a few dozen bikes were parked up along the kerb and realised my bike was missing. I assumed it was stolen and started the long walk home. About twenty blocks along, I realised I had keys jingling in my pocket, which made no sense because I never needed to carry any keys. The penny dropped with a huge crash, and I walked back to find the 750F exactly where I'd left it several hours earlier. By the strangest coincidence, the key went straight into the ignition and the bike started in an instant. It took the girlfriend a little longer to stop laughing at me!

    I can beat that....

Once spent about 15 minutes looking for my 18 month old son at Playcentre only to realise that I was holding him on my hip the whole time....funny thing was, no-one pointed that fact out to me at the time!!!!

i remember driving home from a mates place and then having the sudden realisation that i wouldn't be able to get into my house because i'd left my keys on his coffee table... the same ones that start my car... glad there was nobody else in the car at the time.
